Quite scary to think that it is only just over two weeks away until the start of the season and there are some big holes in our line up. Looking forward to this as after their rise to the championship, Yeovil have crashed back to League 2 and hopefully won't be too much of a mismatch and a chance to see some trailists such as Sam Topliss play.

A lot of positives tonight with only the woodwork stopping us earning a well earned draw!
I sat in the family stand for the first half and spent the time trying to work out who was playing in our team. Of course, Exodus is a fairly visible presence and a bit of a man mountain and there was a comedy moment when one of the Yeovil players literally bounced back off him. From last year there was McDonald, Young, Briscoe and Yeoman. First chance for me to see Fairhurst in action, who reminded me a bit of Billy Key with a sledgehammer of a shot that was tipped over the bar but would have been in either side of the keeper. Very impressed with Dan Butler, ran all match and provided the assist for Briscoe who seems well suited playing in the hole and looked sharp.
So trailists Spiess in goal, Topliss at wing back, Richards on the left of defence, Fenwick with Young in midfield completed the line up. I got a different perspective in the second half in Bristow's bench to see the change in formation. Topliss was under pressure early on but seemed to grow into the game. Fenwick gave a good account of himself with Young. Thought Richards was solid. Spiess didn't have much to do in goal. Certainly no chance with the second goal which was a very well hit 25 yard screamer into the bottom left hand corner, the first was a glancing header from close range which from my end of the ground seemed very hard to save although speaking to someone later maybe his positioning was suspect?
What we seemed to miss tonight though was a targetman who could hold the ball up and bring others into play around him. However, despite having a third of the team on trial, we do seem to be competitive again.....

Much improved tean perfomance last night but still areas to improve on.
A few thoughts
Butler - Excellent
Spiess - thought at fault for the first goal. Got his position all wrong. Would like to see more as apart from picking the ball out of the net a second time didn't have much to do.
Fenwick - some good touches and I understand that he has sighned a years contract. A thinner Matt Hockley?
Yeoman - failed to impress again, seems to get bundled off the ball with ease. Perhaps that's his instructions from Paul Cox?
Target Man - IMO a Tim Sills type bloke required.
Exodus - 'Man Mountain' indeed and was here, there and everywhere.
Cox - shouting insructions throughout the match. Very vocal, good to see and hear.
Won't be at Truro.

It was good to see us stick to the three at the back formation for ninety minutes - further signs that this looks the best formation for us. Not convinced by Spiess - not more commanding than Rice. Butler was excellent - man of the match. Interesting to hear Cox bellowing at Rico (Jamie Richards) to pull out to the left to push Butler on just before Butler pushed on and set up our goal. I would be surprised if we don't sign Richards. Ideally suited to left centre back in this formation, could play left back or centre back in a back four. Topliss and MacDonald were less convincing with Iffy Allen getting at them in the first half - but they were better in the second. Funniest moment was when Exodus launched a long throw that was cleared back to him. He just stood his ground as a defender launched himself at him and literally bounced off him. We all know Exodus's strengths - three at the back is the best way to cover his weaknesses. Fenwick looked good. He threw himself into a few challenges early on which made me think he was a defensive midfielder, but googling seems to suggest he is more of an attacking midfielder. Was at Palace as a youth, moved from Three Bridges to Bishops Stortford to Peacehaven and Telscombe last season and has trialled at Dagenham already this season. Put in some impressive passing in the second half and linked well with Young. Young played well and was unlucky to hit the post. Whether these two could win a midfield battle in a fiercely competitive Conference game as opposed to a three quarter pace friendly remains to be seen. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bayan-fenwick/profil/spieler/215137Briscoe looked very much at home "in the hole" - a position that suits him. Fairhurst had one spectacular effort on goal but a bit short of match fitness. Yeoman not too impressive. Subs were Marsh for Fairhurst, Moulton for Topliss, C.Richards for Fenwick, Maduako (named as Monce on the teamsheet!) for J.Richards, Chaney for Briscoe and Murombedzi for Yeoman. Interesting to see Murombedzi played up front rather than as a winger. Chaney enjoyed the free role behind the front two and showed some good touches. The fact that Maduako is still here suggests that Cox sees potential in him, but Richards is far more "Conference ready" in my opinion and I am not sure Maduako offers much more than Odofin. www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/MATCH-REPORT-Torquay-United-1-Yeovil-Town-2/story-27466944-detail/story.html

I sat beside his Mum and Sister when he played for Dartford at Plainmoor last season, according to them he wouldn't need much persuading. But is he good enough and the type of player Paul Cox needs?
