This could be a big night for the club as Rene goes for the club record of eight goals in eight league games. As is always the way, it is the league leaders in the form of Gillingham visiting Plainmoor and their form of 5 wins and a draw on their travels is pretty awesome and the team need to play their best football over the full ninety minutes if we are to get anything from this one.
With eight goals from their last two homes games, Gillingham are scoring pretty freely and Danny Kedwell is the big threat, scoring 10 goals to put him up there with Rene. Their only draw on the road was last time out against Oxford who kept things tight in a scoreless draw. Ironically, Rochdale are the only team so far to take the three points from them, a team that we comprehensively beat at Plainmoor. However, the Burton manager said of their thumping this weekend that Gillingham were by far the best team that they have met so far....
With two yellows, Oastler will be suspended for this one and I can only see Danny Leadbitter replacing him and with 90 minutes against Yeovil and the second half against Bristol, he is probably better prepared than any other time he has been at our club. I see that Ling tweaked the midfield on Saturday but for a home game I would like to see Danny back on the wing and Nathan Craig in the Eunan role.

on holiday although only 90 miles away, not coming down for this one,if we proceed with the first half performance as against wycombe and saturdays laughable first 45 against the gasheads then god help us.It will be done and dusted within the hour in gillinghams favour if that is the case Rene as the lone ranger is not what we need for this one,but the options?Leadbitter deserves a chance only as the others arent doing the business.Still absolutely frustrated after the weekend fiasco,so gillingham come to us in form,i suspect an away win here for them,as defensively and in midfield we are creaking at present, plus poke was very suspect on saturday, anymore of that and it will be good night irene. Hope and prey rene scores again though,he has been the only true consistent performer all season,he puts the others to total shame,we will miss him when he decides he cant cope with this system much longer

Without wanting to be totally pessimistic here, the Gills look to be on top notch form at the minute and very strong all over the park. I can only see us getting a point at most from this one, and that would be a good result for us. I really dont care if Rene scores or not as it's a team game, and getting a point (or three) is so much more important.

Ditty - yep I would put Gillingham down as favourites but you never know what will happen on the night - look what happened when top of the table Rochdale visited us a couple of seasons back. Agree that points is more important but probably more chance of that is Howe does score.
Loyal - I think I know what you are saying but would argue that the system is suiting Howe very well at the moment....

yes rob its suiting rene i agree, but we are conceding more than we score a recipe for defeat, gillingham bang lots of goals in,and with our suspect midfield, where i see our main problem being,it could be a tanking, but hope not.Without renes hardwork and goals the table would look a lot worse reading today otherwise,he gets banned or crocked we could be in serious trouble for sure

Tonight will a testing game for sure and could determine whether or not we will improve upon last season. Form suggests a win for Torquay is unlikely - seems even shared points would be a good outcome. Can we produce a surprise?

look what happened when top of the table Rochdale visited us a couple of seasons back I doubt anyone could honestly disagree that we offered a far more incisive, threatening, attack back then. Two strikers capable of tucking them away and someone (x2) on the wing with both pace and trickery, and the ability to find the net on a regular basis, whilst still, suprisingly enough, offering support to their fullback. Oh, and a defence full of confidence embarking on a run of clean sheets.

I'll be happy (well, as happy as I can be) if Rene scores tonight, whether we win, lose or draw.

Bevan started in goal with Pokey coming on as a sub. With hindsight maybe not such a surprising result although most of the above have had their critics at some point and just shows what can happen when players have confidence and it comes together as a team! We were still pulling clear of the relegation zone at that point...

Have just parked outside Plainmoor and as usual there's so much to look forward to over the next few hours... Will we see an exciting win? An exciting defeat? Something unusual on the field of play despite the result? Will there be hands on the stadium clock? Sorry, now that's just being too expectant.

I feel as apprehensive now as I did before our meeting with Swindon last Boxing day. Lets hope it's a good omen as I thought we were going to get a real hiding that day and ended up winning.
We will have to be on top of our game to get anything out of this one and for me a point would be an good result.
Bring it on.....

A defence of Branno, Ellis, Nico and Manse! I think you will find Manse was in midfield with Robbo at RB

Stevens in for Easton is the only unforced change

I would have made that change as well. Easton was poor on Saturday - country bad with his distribution and woefully out-muscle and out-thought. He didn't look like the player who did well at Southend (and several clubs beforehand). Hopefully Stevens will provide a spark of creativity.

Survived until half time at least
I'm actually hopeful we can get something here. Not necessarily win it but at least get a point
