Love the Stokoe statue
I hear the Stadium of Light is supposed to be one of the most impressive of the current generation of stadia. It's certainly one of the biggest, a reminder that they have actually won the league title a few times

It's certainly one of the biggest, a reminder that they have actually won the league title a few times A reminder too that Sunderland AFC is a big club in a relatively small community. The "place" of the club in its locale - and in the minds of the populace - is hugely significant. This reminds me of my comment last week about the Martian landing in Newcastle and immediately supporting the football team. The same could probably be said of Sunderland. As for Newcastle, I was in a cafe over the weekend where the customers and staff - all female - were busily discussing "the match" and individual players. Not sure in how many other places that would be so routine and unsurprising. |
