Looking at the weather forecast, I think it is a good job that we are away this weekend otherwise we could have gone a few weeks without football. I think it took York eight years to get out of the BSP, again underlining how well we did but unlike us in our first year back are consolidating well with 24 points from 18 games.
York could even be challenging higher if it wasn't for their poor home record with just the two wins in the league so far. However, they have just come back from Port Vale with a good 2-2 draw, a match where they were the better team with an ominous 67% possession and numerous attempts on goal! Their goals seem to be spread around with top scorer Chambers (6) supported last time out by fellow striker Walker (4), sub striker Reed (4), midfielder Blair (4). Coulson has 5 goals for them but was not in the squad last week.
As far as I am aware Poke should be back for this one which will be a huge boost for the side. Stevens may be back but should Thompson be given a start? Whatever Ling goes for, I think it is certain that Nathan Craig will go back into the centre with Manse out, maybe supported by Lathrope and Easton? With our respective home and away records, this could be a draw but all depends on what team turns up......

So far this season Torquay United and York City have played the same number of games. Torquay have scored 24. York have scored 23. One up there then! Torquay have conceded 23. York have conceded 24. Oh one up there as well! If you are just looking for another stick to beat the club up with then at least find one that stands up to some scrutiny!

We could certainly do without another 4-1 spanking. I'm sincerely hoping that Saturday's game isn't something we should go by. After all, no one in the league had been able to beat us at Plainmoor all season so even losing the match was unusual in itself. To then end up on the wrong side of a 4-1 scoreline was hopefully a one off.
With a bit of help from us admittedly, but Southend have been capable of scoring twice as many goals away from home than York have been able to notch up in their home matches. On that basis I've got my fingers crossed that Southend will prove to have been far stronger opponents than York and that we'll feel a bit more cheerful after saturday's game.

The question is will we get a positive reaction or slip into back into our negative ways and get another stuffing. I do hope Ling will at least be a little more positive in setting up the side and plays at least one winger who actually hugs the touchline and crosses from the byline. I would like to see Thompson get a run In the side he deserves a few games to see if he has the stamina and desire of a weekly challenge at this level and WE NEED AN ATTACKING OUTLET LINGY!! Yes Craig in the middle for sure as he aint much cop as a wide player with Lathrope, and hes sure to persist with Bodin I guess as Easton was pretty awful last time out. Or maybe Oastler right mid with Leadbitter at right wing back. If the side looks to be ultra defensive with a midfield packed with "defenders" again I am sure to lose the will to live. Not optimistic after watching so many poor performances so I predict a narrow 1-0 win!

A team with poor home form compared to their away from, against a team with poor away form compared to their home form. Could go either way then

Good luck to the lads today - let's all hope for a decent performance and at least a point. Would be good to prove some of those miserable dudes on the other site wrong!

Well looking forward to a scintillating display and cracking result in a cold, wet, and windswept Yorkshire to cheer up the doom and gloom merchants on two of the three forums. "free scoring York" and "York score goals for fun" are recent observations. BUT we have scored more goals than them. "Torquay can't defend" another observation, but we have conceded fewer goals than York. Whilst 3-3 looks likely it is definitely our turn to get the rub of the green so:- York City 0 Torquay United 3

I'm looking forward to seeing the team sheet. It will be interesting to see how Lingy is going to approach this game, how he is going to set the side up.
There is one enforced change, with Mansell out, but there could possibly be 2/3/4 changes to try and change things around a bit. I would imagine Poke will be back in, possibly Stevens back in, maybe even Thompson given a start? I'd like to see Leadbitter get a run at right back but not sure this is the game for that. Apparently York play 4-3-3 and their full backs get forward at every opportunity, if that's the case probably better to have the more defensively minded Oastler in at RB?
I'd like to see a midfield 4 of Stevens, Craig, Lathrope, Bodin, with Howe & Yeoman up front in a 4-4-2. With Thompson as a ready made change for Stevens.
I did wonder whether he might consider playing 5 at the back after signing MacDonald, but you need 2 competent wing backs for that and we have don't have that luxury.
I'd settle for a 0-0 bore draw to be honest.

I had us down for a win in the first round of the FA cup. A one nil win against Barnet, a defeat against Oxford and a draw at least at home to Southend. How the bloody hell did I end up winning the prediction league title? That has to be the thousand dollar question. Understandably there is some doom and gloom around, the team has not being getting the results and by all accounts, have been pretty clueless and also unable to score for toffees. Add to that the lack of any real action as far as adding to the side, and then some are going to find it hard to see just how we can get anything from this game. A lot is going to depend on how Martin Ling lines up the side and even more the attitude and effort of the players themselves, it’s up to them to try and win the game as this is a game that is very winnable. If the same team that played last Saturday turns up at York, them sadly I can only see a win for York. If that were to happen them rightly I would expect there to be many moans and groans on here later tonight. The real problem would then be just how Martin Ling can turn things around, because until the transfer window opens again, he has to work with just the players he has got now. We could play a real blinder today and be easy winners, we could end up being hammered again, we won’t know until the game is over, how good or bad the team played. What ever the result the TFF welcomes your views good or bad, we would not expect anyone to be happy clappers just because some always will be no matter how bad things ever got. I fully believe in giving praise where it is due, but equally believe its fine to criticise if it is in order to do so. We all want a win today and its badly needed for sure, a win for Exeter today could see them move into an automatic promotion place, a defeat for Plymouth could see them drop down close to the bottom of the table. For us a win we could be two places higher, a defeat could see us drop down the table even further. I did not get back from Drake Island last week in time to watch any local games , due to the weather I won’t be going out today to watch one if indeed I could find one that was taking place. So a rare Saturday afternoon in and I think I will listen to the game on the radio.

Warm fire and follow the results as they come in via Jeff Stelling for me. Hope all our hardy followers are wrapped up warm in York. I suppose at least Barton is acclimatized now!

Good to hear Poke is starting and Martin Ling talking about us being more attack minded today, lining up three three three one it seems. Note to Martin Ling, we got best four goals to one last week and not four nil.
