I was quite happy that York City returned to the League this season,so I decided to spend a few days the beautiful City combined with our game this Saturday.
I originally planned to drive up but decided book a leisurely trip by Train, but it turned in to an absolute nightmare due to bad weather/flooding.
It started off with the train arriving an hour late at Newton Abbot but there was no mention of any impending problems.Settled down in my seat for the direct journey to York with no changes but then it was announced that we were only going to Exeter due to serious flooding at Tiverton.
Then had to wait a long time for a coach to take us to to Taunton which took ages to get out of Exeter.
Got to Taunton but no Trains running from there,so another long wait for coaches to take us to Bristol Temple Meads.Absolute mayhem at the station, due to the possibility of tempers flaring Police were on duty.
After another long wait I eventually got on to a Train to Birmingham but had to stand most of the way, after several stops due more flooding we eventually arrived at New Street.I then found out the connecting train was only going as far as Leeds and was worried that I might have to catch a Taxi to York.
Once again it was sheer mayhem at New Street Station, they changed the departure platform four times,it was a nightmare carrying my heavy luggage up and down the steps.I`m not that fit so was absolutely knackered!
Eventually got on another train and managed to get a seat. This part of my journey turned out to be the most relaxing.Arrived at Leeds in good time, luckily they were running late Trains to York which left at 00.35(last train was 01.01).Arrived at my Hotel at about 01.15.
Train left Newton Abbot at 12.00(should of left at 11.03).
Should of arrived at York at 16.28(arrived at 01.00)
A journey that should of taken five and half hours but took Thirteen!
Lets hope I don`t have the same problem coming back!
The next morning after a very nice Full English Breakfast(no pictures I`m afraid) I went site seeing.Luckily weather was OK except for being very windy.
Today I went York Minster,The Jorvik Centre and had a walk around some of the streets.
Here are some pictures I took.
Some renovation being carried out on the East Window.
2 Gulls fans praying for a victory on Saturday.
Lazy Bugger!
Some taken from half way up the Central Tower.
Steps leading to the tower. Was knackered when I reached the top.
Views from top,it was VERY windy.Tried to pick out Bootham Crescent but couldn`t.
The Shambles.
Clifford`s Tower.
