After five seasons and the manner in which we lost that play off game, I think this is probably one of our most eagerly anticipated matches of the season! If the pitch can stand up to the deluge of rain falling down then a fullish Plainmoor should generate a good atmosphere (as well as a cashflow) that this local Derby deserves. Exeter seem to be full of confidence on the road with seven league wins out of eleven including winning their last three games on the road at Rochdale, Gillingham and Bradford! Saying that, they are not infallible away and have lost 3-0 to both Northampton and Cheltenham. Exeter's goals seem to come mainly from strike duo Jamie Cureton - 15 league goals only bettered by Tom Pope in our league and John O'Flynn with eight. Together, they have propelled their team into the play off zone as they look to bounce back from relegation. As discussed elsewhere, our injury list is growing with Jarvis joining Macklin and Morris on the long term injured list. I think Bodin is looking like he will be fit for Saturday and my money is on him taking over the role Jarvis was in. Otherwise, I don't think there will be any other changes and although Saah remains suspended and gets to enjoy his Christmas hols, the performance of MacDonald against two very big and physical strikers last week gives a lot of encouragement that he will cope well in what will be a heated match! Finally some thoughts from Jamesb: www.football-league.co.uk/features/20121219/in-opposition-torquay-united-v-exeter-city_2293307_3013502

Cheers for posting that Rob. Hadn't noticed it was in the wrong thread
Thought for a minute Sarginson was refereeing this one, which would've been bad news. But I misread - the ref for this one is Craig Pawson

Having seen the forecast for the next 48 hours I wonder if the game will go ahead. The last 24 hours have produced nearly 2 inches of rain and that coupled with whats due to come does not look good. The pitch cut up a fair bit last Saturday and looked very heavy. Maybe with all our injuries it would not be a bad thing if it was postponed?

I've been waiting for somebody to voice that very pragmatic argument. I'm sure I've said things like that myself in the past. But please spare a thought for those of us who may be in South Devon for a few days only and would rather like the game to go ahead. Call me a selfish gobshite but I'd prefer the game went ahead - irrespective of outcome - than to follow it on bleedin' Ceefax (or whatever it's now called) on a Tuesday night in February. And, yes, I was planning to go to Exeter from Sheffield in a day on 26 January. That's now been snookered but that's the reality of football and TV. C'est la vie. Meanwhile I'm sure this has been done already but what the heck: Attachments:

thank goodness Haig isn't our manager this time Probably would have been quite popular with the fans - push everyone forward and keep attacking whatever the cost! Always enjoyed the Blackadder sketch with Stephen Fry gloating over the piece of land captured that the latest offensive had achieved. When asked what scale it was? 1 to 1! ;D

Not much of a forward choice or threat if Howe, Bodin, Thompson don't make it through injury. It now seems Howe is destined not to start and Yeoman may just get his chance after all and Lingy is even talking of playing Mansell up top. Just shows how desperate we are, all we need now is for Downes to pick up a booking and we really will be down to the bare bones and I'm really struggling to think of who we may have on the bench.

From a purely selfish perspective as there is no chance of me being able to be there. I want this game called off to give us a chance to get our players back. Saah would be able to see out his ban, Billy could shake off his injury as well as macklin being nearer to fitness. We can get in a couple of loanees to share the load and bolster our season. As the return fixture is on telly we might even be able to talk them into screening the rearranged game.
If I was the groundsman I would be out on the pitch soaking the bugger, sprinkllers at full blast to make sure!

Call me a selfish gobshite but I'd prefer the game went ahead - irrespective of outcome - than to follow it on bleedin' Ceefax (or whatever it's now called) on a Tuesday night in February. Barton Downs you are a selfish gobshite there done it but only joking really . No exile would want to come to the Bay hoping to take in a game while they were here, only to see the game called off. On the other hand fans want the team to have the best chance of winning the match and even more so when it’s a local derby such as this game is. That would be the case even more so if the result of the match meant we were staying up, or even winning promotion, while that is not the case as far as today’s game is concerned, this is still an important game that could have an effect on other matches over the Christmas period. It rained all last evening, overnight and is still raining this morning in the Bay and the wind is howling, so the club may well have to work hard this morning to ensure the game does go ahead. My major concern is there is a real danger due to the conditions etc, of ending up after the game with an even more depleted squad. We are almost down to the bare bones now and can’t afford to lose any more players as we will end up having to start young and inexperienced players just to be able to put a side out. While I liked the effort and hard work put in by our players in our last home game, I do feel we might be just too weakened right now to get anything out of this game. I also feel as it might be a very draining game for the players, they will go into the next match on Boxing Day suffering the effects of today’s game as we are hardly in a position to rest anyone and use any form of squad rotation That’s the problem when to try to operate with a very small squad and you can’t get lucky all the time and not end up in a situation where you end up having to depend on those young and inexperienced players. In saying that I’m sure who ever starts today will give their all and that is all that can be asked of them, but the whole situation is far from ideal and I hope we do see some players added to the squad when the transfer window opens. In a perfect world we could end up with 12 extra points after playing our next four games, but under the circumstances, I think if we get half of that total it would be a good result. I would not want to see us lose to both Exeter and Plymouth, but just have this gut feeling I’m afraid, that is what is going to happen. Prove me wrong lads and go and show even with such a depleted squad, we are still the best team in Devon. If you are going to the match have a safe journey and give yourself plenty of time to get to the match, as always we would love you to share your thoughts and views on the match here on the TFF.

Best for the club result wise if the game is called off but we would lose a fair bit of money if it was. If the game goes on I can sense a tanking in the pipeline

If the game goes on I can sense a tanking in the pipeline Out of interest, how much money would we lose? Rather than losing the money, wouldn't the revenue just be postponed to the rearranged game? Sure some would be lost but I wonder if it's really that significant although even a quid is probably important to a club our size.
