Best for the club result wise if the game is called off but we would lose a fair bit of money if it was. If the game goes on I can sense a tanking in the pipeline Out of interest, how much money would we lose? Rather than losing the money, wouldn't the revenue just be postponed to the rearranged game? Sure some would be lost but I wonder if it's really that significant although even a quid is probably important to a club our size. No update on club website to keep people informed waste of time !!

All trains cancelled between Taunton and Plymouth due to flooding and landslips - that's at least one fan that can't make it today.

Ah, ha! Calling me a "selfish gobshite", hey Dave?
I guess I've reached that stage of my life where I just want to see football matches played rather than go too much into the intricacies of arguing over "what's best for the club" at any particular time. Even more reason, I guess, for calling me an uncaring, selfish gobshite. I'll probably become more so as I get older. Mind you, if I was still living in Taunton - with no trains running - I'd probably now be selfishly itching for a postponement....
And, in my case as well, it's been a long time since I had any real cause for visiting Torquay other than to watch Torquay United and to meet up with those who share that interest. This link, in fact, was oddly instrumental in me moving to Torquay on a temporary basis early this year. That's not to cast Torquay in a critical light; it's just the way it is. Had the Christmas fixtures not featured Exeter and Plymouth I may have thought about doing something else, somewhere else instead. But really, the very fact that I still have that "association", is actually a considerable bonus. Many other ageing, nomadic types lose all contact with their "home area" once family is gone.
Furthermore, it's a winter game, subject to the weather. We grew up knowing that and I'd hate football as a summer sport. As for today, given the travel and flood conditions, it wouldn't surprise me if the police don't advise postponement on safety grounds (although, now it's ten o'clock, maybe such advice would have been forthcoming by now).
Isn't it a funny one to explain to non-believers? We worry about games being called off. We're disappointed when they are but - when they're played after hours of doubt - they often prove to be anti-climatic or disappointing. Then, occasionally, we have our reasons for wanting games not to happen. Our personal circumstances also come into consideration. But we understand don't we? And, at this moment anyway, there's still time for all five outcomes: win; draw; loss; abandonment; postponement. Beats the certainties of shopping, don't it? Well, we'll see.....

We've decided to get tickets for the Family Stand today. O.K. the view is not so great but the atmosphere should be more excitimg than the Bristow Bench. Assuming the game goes ahead us, the supporters needs to be "the 12th. man" and do their bit. Yes we've got a horrible injury crisis in what was a small squad in the first place, but PASSION is what is needed today from players and supporters alike. Let's face it in these conditions there won't be much pure football and expect many flying tackles, slipping and sliding. We might lose count of the yellow cards, or there might even be the odd red one? Today is a match for the brave and character is something we have in abundance. So let's get Plainmoor rocking today to help the team. It's about time Rene scored again and perhaps he's been saving it for today.

As you know I was only joking Nick and If I had made the trip down for the Xmas break, I would sure want the game to go ahead. Its not looking good I'm afraid and while the club have no influence over any ref carrying out a pitch inspection, they might be happy if the game was called off. As I said I do fear there is a real risk playing in such conditions to further our injury problems.
So you might just have to stay in the Bay and find something else to do, but what on such a horrible day? I saw the ugly side of Torbay I hate last night and am glad I do not go over the harbour side of the town in the evenings.
We at Toolfix had booked a meal etc, ( all paid for by the bosses) at Harbour Point, but at agreed to meet up at a pub on the harbourside beforehand. It was only 8pm when violence broke out outside and the only good thing to say is how quickly the riot vans turned up and dealt so well with the situation. Why do some drink so much to get into such a state? why is there a need for violence, I hate it and wish we could rid the world of it.

Can understand all viewpoints on this postponement.
I remember a few years back we drove down from Northamptonshire and on arriving at the ground it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Luckily we had booked to stay and could visit a few friends and relations. But was still very disappointing as we don't get down to many games.
The local game I was going to today at Corby Town is also a victim of the weather.
Here's one for the historians, as the away fixture is on a Monday night, when did we last play the home and away derby matches on midweek nights, excluding the Blue Square play offs. I have no idea when or if.

Sure some would be lost but I wonder if it's really that significant although even a quid is probably important to a club our size. I would imagine we would loose quite a bit of revenue. I would expect the crowd to be significantly lower if/when the game is played on a Tuesday night in February, as opposed to a Saturday during the holidays when most blokes would rather be at a footie match than out shopping. There are several of us on here who have to travel to the game, some who can only make it on a Saturday and some who work away from the area who won't have time to get from work to the game. The only way we would recover the revenue would be if sky chose to cover this game as well. Out of interest does anybody know that if you have tickets for today's game and you can't make the rearranged game whether you can get a full refund?

So you might just have to stay in the Bay and find something else to do, but what on such a horrible day? I saw the ugly side of Torbay I hate last night and am glad I do not go over the harbour side of the town in the evenings. I'll confess to having had a serious pathological aversion to "Torquay in the Rain" for some time now. That dates back to a number of trips down from Taunton over the years for games called off at 1.30pm. Then, if you've travelled down by train, you're pretty much committed to splashing around with your disappointment. Good grief, one time I even tried to lessen my frustration by spending the afternoon in Newton Abbot. I can't remember it helping too much. But such an aversion isn't confined to a wet Torquay for it's the nature of seaside resorts, tourist places and national parks. Lovely when the weather is great; rather challenging when not: open windy spaces; crashing seas; aimless people; wasted views because of fog and low cloud. My especial frustration is that, if football's off in South Devon, you're pretty limited with your options. At least when I lived in Taunton I had some sort of Golden Rule: if it's wet head east; if it's frozen head west. It tended to work more often than not. Mind you, had I stayed at home my chances of taking in a new ground would probably have been snookered so no great loss.

That's a pity. Maybe it could be scheduled for Saturday 26th January?
