Edgar Jerome Men's and Boys Outfitters in Aldershot still going strong and amongst other items supplying school uniforms to most of the Aldershot and Farnham schools to this day. Had cause to go in there the other day. A charming outlet the like I haven't seen for many a year. They'll tell you what size you are just by looking at you and be right every time. The type of place that seemed old fashioned in the 70's, when I first needed school uniform.

Another absolute gem, Timbo. I bet "The Merchant Navy Entertains" was a rather saucy and risqué show full of innuendo. Skipper Roy Jackson sounds an absolute hoot. Continuous performances, most likely, for an audience desperate for any form of entertainment (and what was "Venus Keeps a Date" at the Hippodrome all about then?).
I guess Aldershot must have been full of blokes waiting to be demobbed although my poor old dad was still stuck in Italy and didn't get back until the first week of January 1946. Having read his wartime letters - which are now in the care of the Imperial War Museum - he was by now contemplating the big move from London to Torquay. Did he realise what he was letting himself in for with regard to football? Don't do it, dad. It'll not give you any pleasure.
Nice to see the local council well-represented on the board - do you think they were Freemasons as well? - and that's old Bill McCracken (he of the offside trap) in the post of secretary/manager. Was he a mason too?
A 1-1 draw meant something to talk about at the YMCA service men's institute after the game. Then, once you'd discussed the game, you could decide on the respective merits of Aldershot's many tailors. You may also have speculated on the career prospects of Shots' keeper Ron Reynolds who went on to play for Spurs and Southampton. I've not read it but his son wrote a book about Ron's career a few years back.
