After the false dawn of 4 points against Exeter, the loss of our manager led to us having a "mensis horribilus" with seven straight losses which has put us right into a relegation battle royale and sees us once again ending the season flying by the seat of our pants! So no boring mid table finish (will it ever happen for us?) and there has been lots of debate as we have sunk like a stone down the league and got an "interim" manager in for what must be unique circumstrances in our club's history.
Trawling through the various posts, good to see that there has been lots of voting with more than a dozen members picking up at least a point including some "newbies." However, the winner this month with a staggering 20 points, certainly a record over that distance is petef who always gives a honest assessment of how he sees things and perhaps will not be overly surprised at the scenario that we see ourselves in. Well done Pete, some really good posts in there and hard to choose which one to go for....
I must admit I feel rather angry that this situation has seemingly been allowed to fester for far to long the signs have been there for months and months and absolutely nothing of any significance has been done to stop the slide back towards the Conference. If this club were a lame horse you would put it out of its misery and put it in a pie or similar.
From all that's come out of our club its now glaringly obvious we cannot compete at this level and if it doesn't happen this season I fear for the coming seasons. It will eventually happen again I'm convinced of that. You reap what you sow in this game and the squad has been to far down the list of priorities for much to long.
In reality Simon Baker and the board will now have to spend more trying to save us than if they had invested a little more in the squad when it was obvious the squad was struggling. That's if they have the will that is, sometimes I think they are fed up with the whole thing, trying to keep it ticking over and solvent.
Simon Baker and the board, for all there hard work and effort to improve the infrastructure, have taken their eye off the ball and trusted the coach and manager to squeeze as much as they could from a squad bereft of quality in many areas. Well it hasn't worked out as they had hoped it would and we are stuck in a "death dive", tumbling out of control and lurching from one crisis to another with nobody with any tactical sense or enough know how at the controls. Sure we will bring somebody in to try and stop the rot but an ominous pattern has been set and it will take more than a switched on stand in to reverse this fall . We need some quality in the side pronto and some fresh ideas on how to be more effective going forward.
I can honestly say that our forward play has been the worst I have seen for many years and it is that tactic, intentional or not that has finally caught up with us and our pretty decent central defense and keeper are finally cracking under the weight of endless attacks and lack of goals at the other end. Indeed we struggled for goals last season and scrapped so many results and that was with two high quality players in the side and we still expected to be competetive with out them here?
Sure, its nice to be positive all the time and I do try and resist the urge to be negative but now is the time for honesty, a fresh set of eyes on the whole set up which includes every player at the club and maybe the man who comes in will tell a few home truths to all .
I sincerely hope so.

I really shouldn't be posting so soon after yet another hopeless and inadequate display, full of effort no doubt, but sometimes this is the only way to vent your frustration and disappointment.
