Absolutely vital that we win this now, not only because Barnet and Accrington are currently winning and Argyle on for a point, but because throwing away this win (draw or defeat, doesn't matter which) would be such a blow to the confidence when other teams around us are also picking up momentum

Now that's that monkey off our bank, we need to keep this up. If we beat York, I think we'll be fine

I had forgotten what a victory feels like! Great result and well done lads. Same again Saturday please!! Looking at the table, teams are going to need more than 50 points to avoid the drop this year I think...

What a fantastic result---well done to the Team and Management. We are in the period now where performances dont matter just getting some points on the board!! I guess we will have a quieter few days on here now Think I may struggle sleeping so may have a look at some old threads to see what I have missed. Now where shall I start?? Posts about Conference grounds we will be visiting or last weeks Dagenham dross?? KTF

Certainly deserved that win, thought the officials were very poor tonight and maybe it should have been a lot more comfortable but a win is a win is a win! Quite liked the look of Chappell making his debut and got the MotM! Match report to follow later!

how the mighty have fallen.
James messaged me earlier that Jeffers replace Beattie for England 10 years ago against Australia but tonight Beattie replaced Jeffers for Accrington

A good battling performance which shows what can be achieved when you attack and put the opposition under pressure from the start. Hard to fault anyone in the team for the effort put in tonight. I was a bit skeptical about Cruise's ability to compete in L2 matches but he was excellent tonight and fully deserves his starting slot. Laddo and Manse were massive in midfield which resulted in Chesterfield going long ball most of the time. We could have had several more goals but for being slightly wide with a few shots and several really poor offside calls from the popside lino (not to be confused with the few he called rightly and still got abuse from most of the ground). As for the ref, some shocking free kick decisions and yellow cards. edit Was it THIS chump tonight??

Shame they still scored 4 tonight though

A perfect evening for me this evening and most importantly 3 vital points! As I was part of tonight's match sponsors we all had a great time and my boy's team entered the pitch tonight with the team. Thank-you Dean Edwards for arranging this. We had a lovely carvery and we were shown the players changing rooms. I have to say the whole set up these days of our club is first class from the number 10 restaurant to the new players changing rooms under Bristows Bench. I was very proud the image Torquay United projected, it has come on leaps and bounds.
Now onto the match and what a cracking start. Torquay ripped into Chesterfield and took the lead in the second minute. From an inviting Cruise cross, Labadie headed strongly in. Then on 8 minutes sponsors (Kingsteignton U14's) MOTM Chappell hit a long range shot that Howe directed in off the post. 2-0 and we were dreamland. There was a tremendous fighting spirit all night by all our players and we looked a lot more dangerous than I've seen us for a long time. There were still hairy moments. Poke made a tremendous tip over from a dangerous Chesterfield free-kick. On another occasion Chesterfield almost scored but the goalbound shot hit one of their players lying on the ground. The gods were with Torquay. Half-time 2-0.
The second half was a quieter affair and Torquay gemerally held their own well. There was not so much goalmouth activity. But on 77 minutes a Chesterfield free-kick came over and was headed in. It was a very nervy end to the match and there was 5 minutes added time. Saah had a good chance from a free-kichk but did not connect well enough with his shot and was easily saved. Substitute Craig had a cracking shot just wide. But torquay just about held out for a priceless WIN!!!
Our team is now showing the ideal fighting spirit that we will need to survive. The trouble is so are the other teams looking at tonight's results. But a big well done to the team and manager Knill, not forgetting our loyal home support. It was a proud night for me in many ways!
