I couldn't possibly comment, but Chesterfield's programme the following week said that Alan Welsh's goal should have been disallowed for handball.
I love the odea than 9 out 10 managers feared the Spireites more than they did the Villa. They would have felt differently had they seen Villa's 4-0 win at Saltergate that season.
Anyone meeting up at Mattie's Eating House after the match tomorrow?

And did Norman Clegg eventually join the cast of Last Of The Summer Wine ? I love the idea than 9 out 10 managers feared the Spireites more than they did the Villa. They would have felt differently had they seen Villa's 4-0 win at Saltergate that season.

Sounds like quite a formidable Villa side if they could win by such a margin at Fortress Saltergate.
I remember a midweek evening trip up to Argyle to watch Andy Lockhead, Chico Hamilton etc, and the novel experience of seeing Aston Villa slumming it in Division 3. I would probably have assumed that it was just for one isolated season but I learn from the final table in timbo's programme that it took them a second attempt before going up. Mattie's Eating House does sound quite enticing as an after match venue, but I think i'd nip along to the Gulls Nest instead and maybe have a word with the new signings Neil Johnson and Alan Skirton. I'd enquire from Johnson whether it was him or his Mrs who decided that 'John' would be the ideal name for the nipper. As for Alan Skirton I'd want to shake him warmly by the hand and remind him of a fine performance that I'd recall with particular pleasure.
