I’m still feeling very gutted like you all are right now, so I can’t bring myself to post my thoughts on our match thread. I do want to post later on the thread Mervo has started as he has made a very interesting observation.
While it has not been a good day to be a Gulls fan, it has been such wonderful day weather wise down here in the Southwest. The sun has been out all day and what a welcome change from all the rain and cold conditions we seem to have been suffering from for far too long. I could not bear the thought of staying in and listening too our game on the radio and so headed over to Homers Heath to watch my second team play. One thing you always know when you get to the ground is you are going to receive a very warm welcome and see a good game packed with action and incidents.
Any bless her did her usual honours and put the players names down for me while I chatted to a few around me as I made my way to the food hut. What do I love about the Buckland players is they work their socks off for the whole game, so much effort put in and they sure needed to do that as they ended up playing ten against fourteen for most of the match. I can see why Mr Lynch gets as animated as he does at times, he sure did again today and the reason he was ordered from the dugout halfway through the second half. We think the refs and linesmen we get at Plainmoor are bad a times, but believe me, they are far worse the lower down the football ladder you get.
Buckland started so well, taking the game to Odd Down from the very first whistle, but with just nine minutes played the ref made a terrible decision that meant Buckland were going to face an uphill battle to get anything out of the match.
Lewis Pierre in goal for Odd Down punted the ball high and long into the Buckland half, the big Odd Down forward had the ball bouncing around his feet as he tried to take it towards the Buckland box. Mike Booth was tussling with him for the ball and it all looked very fair to me but the ref blew up for a foul and then showed Mark a straight red card. Even if it was a foul I do not think Mark was the last man and thankfully the free kick that was awarded on the edge of Buckland’s box came to nothing.
Even with only ten men the game was a very even affair, but that change slightly when Odd Down took the lead. Once again it was a long punt from their keeper that caught out the Buckland defence, the ball fell nicely to Josh Kline-Davies who took the ball into the box and fired it past Dean Stevens. Buckland were then on the back foot for the remaining of the first half .
They came out fighting the second half as one expected them too, as the half wore on the game was getting stretched and Odd Downs number 10(name not on my programme) should have made it two goals to nil after a very neat one two inside the Bucks box with Josh Kline-Davies, but with just the keeper to beat from six yards out, he put his shot past the left hand post.
Bucks number ten James Mudge up front on his own was working so very hard and on a number of occasions looked like he was in on goal, but just found he had to many defenders around him. Twaine Plummer hit a cracking 35 yard shot for Bucks that looked like it had goal written all over it, but the ball narrowly went over the crossbar.
Poor Danny Gaze for Bucks, who had been getting a very unfair hard time from the ref all afternoon, was clearly elbowed in the face, he fell to the ground and despite shouts to the ref to stop the game, he decided to carry on, was that because Odd Down were in a good attacking position? When the ball went dead the ref came over to Danny and rightly Danny had a few things to say, sadly he got a yellow card for simply asking why the game had not been stopped.
Meanwhile My Lynch was having a right old go at the linesmen and the ref came over and ordered him out of the dugout. Anthony did not do as asked and the ref walked away, but it was not too long after Anthony had further words with the linesmen that this time the ref made sure he left the dugout.
Bucks then went and got a much deserved equaliser, it just goes to show if you keep working hard, rewards will often come. I forgot to write down the goal scorer, but I have a feeling it was James Mudge. A great ball was played to him by my name of the match Ben Carter and from just inside the area the shot was taken that the keeper got something on, but could not stop hitting the back of the net.
Really enjoyed my afternoon over at Homers Heath, but then I always do.
