Thanks for posting that Brett.
It doesn't say where they are planning to build it though. It looks like a modern version of Ashton Gate but then Steve Landsdown goes onto say that the bottom tier will be a continuous bowl but each stand will have its own identity. Like one or two others on here I really hate these souless IKEA flatpack stadiums. Could you tell Leicester City's Walkers Bowl and Southampton's St Mary's if they had the same colour seats?
I also enjoyed the Bateson mantra of "pennywise, pound foolish" being reversed by Steve Landsdown saying "we should never spend a pound when we can spend a penny". Have public toilets got that expensive?

Must admit I've not followed this one too closely. Perhaps there have been just too many NEW BRISTOL STADIUM PROPOSAL stories in my time. I'm sure there have been "developments" suggested for all compass points out of the city - near the ring road, "Severnside", the old airport at Whitchurch and probably more. City, Rovers, the rugby, all and sundry. Indeed, it's still not certain that the Memorial re-development is to go ahead as originally planned. I see it's been put on hold, re-modelled and now Rovers will play on as the building happens around them. More on this early in 2009. The City proposal seems to be plausible, largely because the club is better run than it has often been in the past. And, after all the other plans, this one is encouragingly close to Ashton Gate as this map (from the club website) shows: If it happens this would be City's third ground in the Football League. The first was St John's Lane, Bedminster where the club played from 1901 to 1904. You'll see this ground - marked "Athletic Ground" - in the bottom right hand corner of this 1950s street map of the area:

Up until July, I'd lived in Bristol for the best part of six years. That whole time, there were constant rumours of plans for both Rovers and City to build new stadiums. I lived minutes from the MemStad, so I heard much more news about Rovers. I know at one point they were interested in building a stadium packed with student halls which would, in effect, pay for it. I have a friend whose Dad is quite well known in the Bristol City supporter circles and I understand most Rovers and City fans would be against a stadium share. Basically, they want to keep Rovers in the north of the town and City in the south. As an outsider looking in, I would suggest a shared stadium more central in the town would make financial sense and bring help bring together the mixed communities of Bristol. Incidentally, just above the Athletic Ground you'll see Cotswold Road. This is where Emma lived when I met her three years ago while we were in our second year at University.
