Many thanks Tim for putting up this very interesting programme. Some very big clubs playing in the same league as us that season and with QPR at the top of the table, a draw away from home would have been a good result for us.
The QPR fans must have been very happy to hear the board say they would do all in their power to gain promotion as long as the fans played their part, the size of the gate shows they must have responded.
Interesting to read that the two main strikers could not train with the team due to still being in the army, I wonder if any of our players in the team listed, might have also still been in one of the forces.

Lovely to see that ancient relic of a QPR programme, Timbo. How did you get your hands on that one?
Back then, Division 3 (S) was the natural environment of QPR and we'd played them every season since we'd been elected to the league. Rangers did get promoted in 1948 but slipped back to their old ways after four seasons in the second division.
And - of course - a key feature of that programme is the picture of an extremely young Don Mills, the boy from Maltby near Rotherham who was to become one of the most accomplished players in our history.
As ever, adverts from programmes pre-1970(ish) always have a special appeal. Glancing at this one you can imagine a bloke (if you really must) suffering from rheumatism reeking of Elliman Rub - and Afrikander to boot - dabbing on the Nufix while trying not to cut himself shaving. Then maybe, when it starts pissing it down in the second half, he and his mates seek shelter under one of those genuine ex-railway tarpaulins. Ah, but no matter, proper league football - week after week - was back after the war. And didn't the crowds love it.
