After recently encountering Steve Morrall at the start of his Torquay career this must be pretty much towards the latter stages.
No match sponsorship from our man in Ghana. But there was a Walt Hatherley memorial ball for the game against Cambridge on 3 January. And with that ball did Pat Kruse score the fastest-ever own goal.
Two players sponsored by cricket clubs. Did they play for them by any chance?
Eddie Edgar, the Hartlepool 'keeper, made a single first-team appearance for Newcastle United. I know because I was there. His son plays for Burnley and Canada.

And B.Wiggitt at left back was actually Dave Wiggett, who was killed in a car accident, aged 20, in March 1978, following which his team mate Bob Newton was sent to prison for causing death by dangerous driving.
