Another little beauty from Cold Blow Lane and I can't help starting with the adverts. The idea of "personal supervision" at Frank's Cafe on the Old Kent Road sounds marvellously quaint and almost genteel. The geographical references are wonderfully South East London - Peckham, New Cross Road, the Thomas a Beckett pub, a telephone exchange called Rodney - but it'll be a place that's changed greatly in the intervening fifty-five years.
Good to see that the sportsmanship of our directors remains unceasing and unflagging. And you get the feeling that Millwall might be happier playing the likes of Torquay United rather than head into the new post-1958 northern wilderness. How indeed can Southport survive on gates of just 5,000? Cutting northern "deadwood" seemed to be constant refrain of London newspapers when I was a boy..
A reference in the Supporters Notes to Ball Point Pens priced 2/6d. There's modern for you.
