This one's before I was born but I see Gary's dad is there at Left Wing for the home team; a Scottish international alongside some Other Working Class Football Heroes.
I doubt he could afford Terylene/worsted Gold Star SupaSlaks on his wages...

What with those adverts for slacks, garages and sheds you get the impression that the Coventry economy was booming at the start of the 1960s. Perhaps extra spending money was one of the benefits of foremen, supervisors and technicians becoming members of ASSET (I wonder if a trade union has ever advertised in a Torquay United programme?).
Two industrial giants of the day also advertising: the National Coal Board and Courtaulds.
No sign of sky blue in the club colours or programme design. But that wouldn't be long coming.
Joe Mercer expressing his opinion on club games being postponed because of internationals. It was a simpler game then without the wrong kind of loans and matches for just about every age group imaginable.
You suspect those forthcoming attractions at Highfield Road will face stiff competition from the Birthday Show at the Coventry Theatre. Aldershot Reserves or Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson. Which would you choose?
Oh dear, I've a sneaky feeling I've seen Pearl and Teddy but not Shots' stiffs. That needs rectifying.

Treherbert-born Brian Jenkins signed from Cardiff City during the close season. I suppose he did, but for Exeter City not for Torquay United. A few weeks later, Millbrook-born Reg Jenkins signed for Torquay United from Exeter City. Someone is getting their Jenkinses mixed up.
