Some pretty poor spellings there of Plummer, Hewitt and Brien. Paul Hall played for Chesterfield later in his career, John Matthews had played for them in the 1984/5 promotion season and of course Dave Caldwell was the man who managed to get himself sent off 5 times in a single season for the Spireites and the Gulls. Nigel Hart was the brother (and still is) of Paul Hart, who was manager of the side and who has now been sacked by 8 different clubs: Chesterfield, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley, Rushden & Diamonds, Portsmouth, QPR, Crystal Palace and Swindon.
Chesterfield played at Wembley in the play-offs and lost to a goal for Cambridge scored by Dion Dublin, who also had Steve Claridge in their side and who went up again the following season under the management of the notorious John Beck.

Felix
Don't forget that we introduced the siren for the first time last Saturday, plus the performance against Rochdale was the teams most successful attempt yet at eradicating all passing from our play. Young players brought up under the doctrine of Lingism are weekly being sent into exile, and not necessarily all will return to undergo further 're-education' at Plainmoor.
Implementing the full teachings of Beck will take a while, and for the time being at least Alan Knill is some way from being in the position of our manager Dave Smith back in 1990 who could confidently assert that a forthcoming game is 'going to be a cracker'. Mind you Dave's comment about 'looking for big improvements' might well be replicated in this Saturday's Managers notes.

John Beck tactics would be a good idea tomorrow, Comrade. Chesterfield's midfield men are a lot better than ours so best miss them out and give the ball some welly.
I favour an 8-0-2 formation with Chapell and Benyon as the 2. Kick the ball through Ian Evatt’s legs and run after it.
