Dagenham have been inconsistent of late, with 2 wins, a draw and 2 defeats in their last 5 matches. A polarisation of their home and away form seems at be at the heart of it - in their last 5 home league matches, they've won 4 and lost just 1, but away from home they are without a win in 4. Amon the familiar names in the team are former Torquay defender Brian Saah, former West Ham striker Zavon Hines and defender/midfielder Abu Ogogo, who is always dying to have the own goal prefix attached, as was the case last season at Plainmoor. they are doing OK despite being one of the smallest and least wealthy clubs in the league. - in the last game, they could not fill their bench
Team vs Oxford:
Gk Chris Lewington Def Luke Wilkinson Def Femi Ilesanmi Def Brian Saah Def Gavin Hoyte Mid Abu Ogogo Mid Lawson d'Ath Mid Luke Howell For Rhys Murphy For Josh Scott For Zavon Hines
Subs: Jordan Seabright (Gk), Jack Connors (Def), Matthew Saunders (Mid), Anthony Edgar (Mid), Sean Shields (Mid), Chris Dickson (For)
Head-to-head:
Dagenham wins: 1 Torquay wins: 2 Draws: 3
Last match: Dagenham 2-2 Torquay (Elito pen 4; Labadie 71; Scott 75; Howe pen 89), League Two, March 2013
Last Torquay win: Torquay 2-1 Dagenham (Stevens 36; Saunders 73; OG Ogogo 80), League Two, December 2012
Only Dagenham win: Dagenham 5-3 Torquay (Gain 18; Green 55, 56; Wroe pen 62; Scott 66; Benyon 81; Carayol 87; Thomas 90), League Two, August 2009

Yes, I saw that Dagenham win in what was our first away game in the league. A bit outclassed that day but gave a good account of ourselves with Carayol hitting a humdinger from extreme range.
Head says this will be another draw but hoping we can gather some momentum with another win. Will be surprised if Knill doesn't pick the same starting XI and use a formation that suits away from home even more but by no means has to be defensive!

After 20 games last season we had 31 points compared with 18 this season, however the run of 7 sucessive defeats in February was still to come. I think we have bottomed out this season and I have already predicted 9 points against Bristol Rovers, Exeter and Plymouth. However we still have 13 points to make good to achieve seasons total of 53 points.

Hopefully the rain won't halt proceedings today.... Anyone any news on this? Not quite as bad up there as its been here rjd. Hope we can build on last weeks very good team performance this time and not slip back into our careless mode. When was the last time we won two in a row? Time to break the win lose lose draw sequence.

Great result. Is this the corner turned? Sounds like we weathered quite a storm in the second.half but we dug in. Another clean sheet too which must give the players and Knill a boost going into the Christmas period. We'll done lads and happy Christmas to all on the forum, I think we can all enjoy it a bit more now.

Scored, dug in and repelled everything they could throw at us. A new spirit found by the looks of it with two clean sheets and two wins in a row things are starting to look a little better than they were a fortnight a go. Couldn't have asked for any more just before the festive period and this should boost the holiday attendances. Poke in goal has surely made a difference as he looks the part though despite Rice doing as well as he could have in his absence but the biggest factor is the change in tactical thinking from the manager and playing three in middle. Looking forward to boxing day and another battle with Rovers who had a good win v Portsmouth. Mansfield are on the slide, three points from their last eleven games, leading 2-1 going into injury time conceed two and lose. Shows you have to keep playing and concentrating every second of every match something we have done last week and this. Well done to the players and manager. Credit where its due and I truly hope the boards faith and level headed response finally pays off for them.

I see Boothroyd has paid the price for being bottom at Christmas and has been given the sack.... Oh dear, that will see them shoot up the table with the appointment of a new manager!

Still a long way to go, but great to see us string together two wins.
It was really looking like we would go into the series of local derbies cast adrift at the foot of the table. Now we are back in the middle of a relegation scrap rather than needing a couple of xmas wins to even join the battle.

Only just back in but looks like that midfield three have given us that bit more defensive solidity to grind out a win. Like Ling before him, this change of formation has had immediately results (although there are plenty of other factors in the mix) and appears to point to a way of getting off the bottom!
Two wins in a row feels incredibly good and should give us a boost going into the hectic holiday programme....

Well, what a difference 6 points make! The bottom half of the table is unbelievably tight and a good festive period could really see us pull away...don't know what others think but I reckon we'll draw against rovers and argyle but beat exeter. The important thing is that we seem to have discovered some fight and the togetherness that appeared so lacking a few weeks ago is also now present. We are now harder to beat and obviously the change of formation has helped on that front. Whilst not out of the woods yet by any means, Knill deserves credit for turning it around in the last two games. A lot of us, myself included, were questioning his tenure at the helm and how it could continue, after the Scunthorpe game it seemed untenable. However whatever was done over the enforced two week break appears to be working, long may it continue. When my Exeter tickets first arrived I was convinced I was going to witness another defeat, now I'll travel with more hope!

Took the opportunity to tie in a visit to relatives around London along with attending the Daggers match. Funny little ground at the end of a residential street with possibly the narrowest stands along a long side in the league? On to the match though and it was a good battling professional performance in somewhat horrible conditions with the rain arriving about 2 minutes into the game after the previous drizzle. No changes from the Southend match so 4-3-3 it was. The midfield coped extremely well in winning back possession and McCourt looked much improved with his pass selection. Marquis ran the defence a bit ragged with former Gull Brian getting rather niggly as the game wore on. We should (IMO) have had a penalty in the 1st half as Marquis was running onto a ball in the area in a good position to shoot (like the goal against Southend) when the defender caught his ankle. Cue a lot of abuse for the ref. Over the 90 minutes we looked the better team and Dagenham didnt really pressure us till they were one down. Their attacking intent seemed limited to mostly wayward, medium range shots with Pokey possibly having 2 shots to save in the first 70 minutes or so? They did try and throw people forward as the match drew to a close but the defence stood pretty firm and kept Murphy pretty well shackled apart from the chance that hit the bar close to the end. Usually happens to us, so nice to see someone else doing the same. Stand out players for me were the midfied trio but hard to single out anyone from a good team performance.
Only downside of the weekend? The poxy A303 past Stonehenge again....
