I kept to him, rather than faced him Bri....he could get it through all right! Built like a brick shit house, hated batters.....proper bowler. He was a big boy alright! Thankfully he was nearing the end of his career and had lost a yard of pace by the time he got the chance to try and knock my block off. Like you say, a proper Bowler and just the sight of him on the pitch was enough to put the fear of god through most. A good old fashioned 'Nasty' fast bowler that sadly no longer seem to exist in the Devon League.

Faced Jamie Overton at North Devon a season or two ago in the league, Somerset and England think he has a big future. ....quick, arrogant and pretty nasty. Definitely seemed to very much enjoy hitting several of our lads at will.......he'll go far.

Luckily for me the only time I've played against him was at North Devon a couple years earlier in a second team fixture when he was a kid. My recollections of the game being: twin brothers - who could have been no more than 15 at the time - putting on a big 100 partnership, me getting out for a blob and a very long journey home reflecting on the days events.. A far cry from the young man I saw practicing in the nets with Boyd Rankin and Chris Jordan before an England Lions game at Taunton in the summer. Part of the England set up already, he’s got every chance of getting to the very top of the game. Lets hope so.

He was captain of N.Devon for a few years around about the time I was in my 1st spell of captaining Paignton. A thoroughly, unlikeable, arrogant man, without the talent of his offspring and possibly one of the most miserable feckers I've ever played against - terrible loser. That long soul searching drive home from Instow eh! Yep, many times
