Ah yes, the "exciting festive fixture". Best not mentioning it again. Ever.

I remember being impressed by the signing of Ernie Hannigan from Coventry. That's probably because I'd seen a full-page colour picture of him in one of the football magazines. Checking his history it seems he had one of those 1960s and 1970s careers that finished up in not just America but also Australia. Those would have been the days when clubs in those countries imported ageing British pros by the shed load rather than produce their own players. Ernie Hannigan eventually pitched up with Stirling Macedonia in Perth, Western Australia. Ha! I've seen a game there and have been in the social club. I wonder if Ernie was present when I visited?

The United States also proved to be a later destination for both Brian Joy and Tommy Jenkins who had come face-to-face in the previous week's fixture between Torquay United and Reading. Jenkins had a decent career at Southampton and Swindon before moving to Seattle which has been something of a football hotspot for a long time. Joy played for a number of clubs including the implausibly-named Las Vagas Quicksilvers. Look at the picture on his Wiki page and you'll be able to wryly enquire "just who are those two geezers with Brian Joy?"
