Yes, it happened - Plymouth Argyle v Exeter City, Football League Cup, 1st Round, 2nd Replay at Plainmoor in 1968. City won 1-0 (after two 0-0 draws) in front of an extraordinary 10,884. I'm pretty sure the August Bank Holiday was still at the start of the month in those days so this would have been an ordinary working day. The FL Cup certainly had appeal in those days - the game at Exeter had drawn 13,500 and, in the next round, Exeter v Sheff W attracted 16,000. This wasn't Argyle's first visit to Plainmoor to play a team other than Torquay. In March 1961, with Home Park closed due to crowd trouble, Plymouth played Ipswich at Plainmoor watched by 9,626.

Well I never knew that Barton, I love the bit where it says if you are an Argyle or a City fan and you team is not at home, why not come and see United play.
Surly most fans would only want to see their own team play and would not go every other week to watch our team. I have talked to the odd Plymouth fan who would come and watch us, but can't see many city fans wanting too.
