Any change tonight, I doubt it, at the moment we're just going through the motions game after game and just handing the points to the opposition on a plate. Hargreaves has asked for a "HERO" to step out of the ranks of the players and score the odd goal for him! Sadly, for us and Hargreaves, there are no players in the team that are able to do that. I do believe though, that just a few miles up the road we have two players who are quite capable of scoring goals. They don't have to be "HERO'S" they just have to do what they get paid for! With an attack minded Craig ( probably our only player who can cross a ball and pass to one of our own players) rather than a defence minded Mansell, (i'm being kind there) and Yeoman up front instead of Hawley (surely he can't be any worse ) then I think we could have half a chance of saving our season...i'm sure others will disagree...that's fine, this is after all a forum! These two players for me are game changers, and they can make opportunities out of nothing...which none of our present squad are capable of!
But we all know what's going to happen and who's going to play tonight, and next Saturday, and the following Tuesday, and the following Saturday...at which stage we will need to win our remaining games to avoid relegation!
On saying that, I think we might just win those last eight games! You might think i'm as mad as Simon (I know Simon so I know from first hand experience that he's mad) but just have a feeling!
Labadie's biting verdict is due soon and with the likelihood of a guilty verdict coming his way, yet another reason to recall Craig. Oh wait a minute, Hargreaves big mate Mansell has to be in the team no matter how badly he plays, so no chance there then!
I hear that Thompson has returned, whether he has been recalled by us to feature in tonight's game or been sent back because he's crap is unknown!

If we are to get out of this predicament then a look at the table shows that our neighbours up the road are 10 points ahead of us and we have a game in hand. We still have to play them there so a win tonight, win our game in hand and beat them at St. James Park and the table will look completely different.

Forgotton what a win feels like! Well done lads...if relegation is to come then results like this will mean we will at least make a fight of it....and of course hopefully breeds a bit of confidence and belief. Perhaps CH will see the players who started tonight as a more settled 11, with less chopping and changing. Anyway well done to the boys tonight, I'm just going to enjoy the win!

I saw enough on Saturday to convince me that we are doing all we can to at least make a fight of it despite what a certain poster had put on here - we weren't "clueless" or "abysmally bad" against Fleetwood and have proved tonight that there is still some fight left. So pleased for the players and manager to finally get some reward for the positive attitude when most of us had completely given up. Who knows this could be the start of a winning run that may give us a slim chance of escaping the clutches of the Conference. Just hope it isn't another false dawn. It isn't over till its over and who would have believed Exeter City would be teetering on the brink along with us, only a few months ago they were talking of automatic promotion. The derby match In six weeks time may still have some huge significance. Its strange old bloody game.

I had forgotten what it was like to enjoy a game at Plainmoor.
After a series of "must win" games, we finally had a "doesn't matter whether we win or not because we are down anyway" game. Did that help to take the pressure off the players?
I'm not a big fan of 4-2-4 - too often it saw us overrun in midfield when Knill stuck with it early in the season. It worked today. We were "at it" and "on the front foot". Why was that? Tactics? Motivation? Or was it the fear of relegation being replaced by the freedom of acceptance?
Goodwin and Cameron added the energy and pace that had been lacking on Saturday. Both saw a fair amount of the ball, worked hard and looked dangerous. Our two strikers never let Rochdale settle - Showunmi with his physical presence and Benyon with his phenomenal work rate. Labadie and Lathrope battled hard to hold the midfield. Pearce, captain for the day, was outstanding at the back.
The crowd was excellent - really supportive. It was a really enjoyable atmosphere.
A thoroughly deserved win, but still extremely unlikely to stay up. In fact I am not opening my heart to that very faint glimmer of hope. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand.

For once, a most enjoyable game of football with the novelty of a home win AND our team scoring more than once! A rare foray into the pop for me where I was rewarded with plenty of goal mouth action! A positively frenetic opening half an hour for us, certainly by the standards of our season so far!
Benyon had the first chance after the ball fell to him in the area with Enoch drawing a couple of defenders to him but his shot was slightly delayed, weak and deflected to the wrong side of the post. Shortly after a cross hit their defender from close range but an appeal for hand ball was declined which may have been a little harsh if given. However, Benyon was able to latch on to a through ball at which point the last defender pulled him back, cue a free-kick and only a yellow card to the fury of the home support. It was from this free kick though that Pearce was able to get on the end of and glance the ball in for a well deserved lead!!!!
We also doubled it a short time later when a cross was deflected slightly by the defender from inside the area for a clear penalty but missed by the ref with the lino on the wrong side!! The equaliser when it came was soft. After Benyon was out manoeuvred, their defender was able to penetrate deep into our half unopposed and the subsequent build up which saw a few crosses was finally bundled over the line. A swift reposte from the kick off saw Enoch let fly with a humdinger that rebounded off the base of the post!!!
So after being unfortunate not to start the second half in the lead, the second period was more even. However, when the goal came, hats off to the ref. A foul on Benyon was allowed to play the advantage and Goodwin was able to pick the ball up and although the keeper was able to save the subsequent shot, Labadie was on hand to force home from close range. Rochdale were not happy with the decision and some verbals saw a red card being produced!!!
It was a tense final ten minutes nevertheless with a few wayward defensive headers wrong footing Ricey forcing him into a good save and a very good block from a dangerous setpiece May have got a rare maximum home returns ! There is hope yet!!!

HOW INFURIATING BUT
how infuriating, just as its too late it appears, they come up with a performance like that. Why oh why now not 3 months ago.I thought pearce was excellent again, but also thought young courtnay cameron was very good too.A solid never say die have a go game from us,but i err on the side of caution, after a cracking win at portsmouth, they gave up giving it all,a win at cheltenham on saturday could make it very interesting, but back to back wins are rarer than hens teeth for us

At last...a win! It seems that Hargreaves has finally managed to instil a bit of passion into the team, an attribute of his that has at last rubbed off.
I did mention that I had a feeling (not that sort of feeling Simon...someone asked me last week if I could remember the first time I had sex..."First time" I said, "I can't even remember the last time!") we would get out of this mess and I still do, even though it's nigh on impossible!
I see that Showumni has turned into a good signing, maybe not so much for his footballing skills, but he seems to have a good effect on the team, in particular the younger players. Something which we desperately need in the team at this present moment.
Joss is up before the beak very shortly, and I think there is only going to be one outcome... So it's either the return of Mansell or the return of Craig...I know which one I would go for!
Of course, in every TUFC performance there has to be a downside! Last nights downside was the fact that yet again (the very reason we're in this bloody predicament) our forwards didn't score...again the defenders had to do the scoring. It has to change or even Simon's un-flagging optimism will finally end!

For once, a most enjoyable game of football with the novelty of a home win AND our team scoring more than once! The novelty of a home win? As someone who hasn't been to Plainmoor this season I was starting to feel guilty about the number of away wins I've seen. I'm relieved you're catching up. Save one for me please when I visit on Good Friday. The crowd was excellent - really supportive. It was a really enjoyable atmosphere. I'm glad to hear this because some of the criticism I've read about our home support has disappointed and angered me. Fortunately one or two people have now reassured me that there is still life and even hope (see below). On a wider matter I've spoken before about the artificiality of following events through the Internet from afar. That may be less of an issue for me in future as I anticipate being back in Devon next season. Nonetheless, on the 25th anniversary of the World Wide Web, I find myself contemplating its' effect on being a football supporter. Absolutely fantastic, isn't it? Take one small example from last night when at 7.25, in a gathering crowd of 48 about to watch Hallam v Knaresborough, I was able to access the Torquay line-up on my phone. Good grief, what's more amazing: the fact I can do that or how it's now almost taken for granted? Access to constantly refreshed and expanded comment about our club and team is also a rather incredible concept. It's over twenty-five years since I was fortunate enough to have my first article on Torquay United published in a magazine. But I'm now in my seventeenth year of reading message boards such as this and it's easy to write as much in a couple of days as I managed in a dozen articles over those twenty-five years. That surely represents a heightening of the senses should you care to follow a football club through this medium. Yet today, in light of the WWW anniversary, we are being reminded of some of the so-called "perils" of the web. And, when it comes to a football club, these probably become more apparent when things are going badly. The amount that has been written about Torquay United recently has been truly astonishing. That's possibly human nature in the face of adversity and what has been expressed has been an incredibly rich and interesting mix. Indeed, the amount of "information" alone - much of it conflicting and subjective - is astounding. There's also the identification of the perceived culpability of a host of club personalities and the precise level of blame we appear eager to attach to each. That, to a degree, is understandable (although not necessarily justifiable); anybody - absolutely everybody it appears - entering football these days is forced to appreciate they will be in the public spotlight and subject to scrutiny. Yet much of what I've read recently isn't too far removed from one of Alpine Joe's North Korean show trials. And, of course, there are unpleasant levels of personal abuse. If you think it's informed comment to imply in print (for effectively that's what it amounts to) that a club employee is "a ****ing moron" please think again or find yourself another hobby. But it's intriguing the way people rally around a particular theory or outlook (I know because I've been there). You - and a few others - may favour theory A (which quickly metamorphoses into established fact) that casts individual X as the villain and Y as the hero. Then there's the B theorists who vilify Y and champion X. Next the third outlook which puts Z in the dock. Help! I want to get off but, naturally, it all makes Plainmoor - if not the world - go round and round. It's compelling but try passing on some of these contrasting theories to supporters who don't partake of the internet. That was certainly one way of spending the journey back from Portsmouth to Surrey and bemusing an old friend in the process. By Guildford much of what I'd told him either resembled a form of internet gangsterism or good old-fashioned factional politics. You wonder if each group of theorists should be identified by a three-letter acronym (TLA). On a personal level I'll certainly confess to having had problems with some of the content - and a few individuals - throughout this season together with concerns about my own level of internet usage. As a result I've probably slashed my contributions (in all places) by 75% in recent months although mobile technology, and too much free time, still renders me prone to over-avid reading. I guess a sub-plot to my own season is that I've been genuinely disappointed and appalled by the bile, venom and frequently libellous material that I've been reading online both on twitter and the various internet forums. I should only be interested in the club, team and maintaining friendships but, regretfully, I've ended up losing respect for a number of fellow supporters. That rather saddens me. In fact I am not opening my heart to that very faint glimmer of hope. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand. Exactly! Hope, as I'm sure somebody influential once said, can be a tricky bugger. This time yesterday I had all but abandoned hope. Now I may still have done so but I'm not entirely sure. Hope can confuse and it rarely runs in a straight line. So who is for Cheltenham? The place will be full of anti-climax after the Festival. Hopefully, that word again, we'll not add to it.
