I see that the provisional squad is to be announced on 13 May. I admit that I am no expert at this level but will be interesting to see who has got one foot in the plane....

Goalkeepers: Hart, Foster, Forster
Defenders: Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Jones, Smalling, Baines, Shaw
Midfielders: Gerrard, Henderson, Lampard, Wilshere, Lallana, Sterling, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barkley
Strikers: Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck, Lambert
Stand-By: Ruddy, Stones, Flanagan, Carrick, Cleverley, Carroll, Defoe
Difficult to argue with those selections. A slightly better squad than 4 years ago

Rooney will fire blanks again no doubt and Lampard at 35 will struggle and I reckon and most will struggle to cope with the South American climate Don't see many World beaters there mind you when you compare with the Messi and Saurez's etc. Sturridge on his day though is up there Lambert who has played most of his career at places like Rochdale and Bristol Rovers is a complete mystery - he just knows where the back of the net is! Still nice to see some younger players in the squad Barkley, LaLana and Oxlaide Chamberlain could shine but I'm not expecting much in all honesty. Shame about Walcott, Walker and Rodriguez as I think they would have all been on the plane. Still in another four years time when the new premiership youth sides are well established and producing world class players in the new League three we may just stand a chance!

Seeing as Roy has overlooked me, I would like to announce my retirement from international football.

Pretty much agree with you, Pete. I reckon had Townsend been fit, Lampard would not have been selected. I like Frank but he is past his sell by date for this level of football. Although I would be very happy to see him prove me wrong!

Against my better judgement I decided to have a look at the England Peru game on Friday! I realised after about two minutes that I had made a serious mistake, but in all fairness, I had to stick it out for the remainder of the first half. Which I did, and I have to say I was bored witless, so much so, that I would rather have my scrotum licked by a Water Buffalo than watch an England game this summer!

Luckily I watched the game through a haze of alcohol, which is my plan going forward.
