Anne Louise, who has recently joined TFF, has sent me this autographed programme cover. There's no explanation as to how it fell into her possession but it's for the two 1979/1980 pre-season friendlies against Oxford United and Newcastle United: I've dug out my own copy and I see I've written in the full details for the Newcastle match which we lost 2-3 in front of 2450. Both our goals were scored by Steve Cooper; theirs by Alan Shoulder, Nigel Walker and Kenny Mitchell. Other names of note in the opposition line-up: John Brownlee, Terry Hibbitt, Mick Martin and Peter Withe. In our squad - with autograph to match - was Colin Williams. We may have mentioned him before but I couldn't immediately place him. The programme described him as a Bristol-born teenage striker who, after "graduating through the youth and reserve teams" was now hoping to break into first team football. This, I imagine, may be one of the very few autographs he ever signed.
