So Bowman was kept away from the fray at Plymouth~something I wouldn't have done personally (what do I know though) because I don't think he should have been rewarded by walking straight back into the team after nutting someone! He should have been part of the team to turn out at Plymouth and told to wind his neck in~head butt/neck in...sometimes I crack myself up!
I just hope that if he does start on Saturday that Archie starts with him, because Archie has certainly earnt his place in the team.
Bowman on his own up front: 0:0
Bowman with Archie: Pick a number from 1~10.
Just had a call from Chris Hargreaves, and I told him I'd be delighted to help with the team selection every week!

What a great pleasure it was witnessing an all round and probably the most complete and convincing performance for a couple of seasons. Very enjoyable watching young players develop and improve week on week whilst playing attractive passing "no fear" football. Some outstanding performances today though we must remember who we were playing, we just never let them get any sort of foothold in the game in which we eventually totally demoralised them in every department. Four very good goals to boot which could quite easily have been a couple more with a couple of good penalty shouts turned down and a host of other well worked chances that maybe should have led to more goals. The front line's performance and willingness to work and feed of each other was a joy to behold - god I've missed you convincing attacking football!- with Young and the outstanding Richards again looking like the best midfield pairing weve had in recent years. Cameron and Ajala doing what they do best with great technical skill for this level and Bowman and Duane Ofori-Achampong looking dangerous and willing, things are looking decidedly good at the moment. A special mention to for our much maligned wing backs. Tonge and Cruise both had there best games yet in a Torquay shirt and are no doubt benefiting from playing regularly in an improving team with players that are happy to receive the ball in tight situations and look comfortable. Downw=es and Mac Donald again commanding and looking like a pairing that will be hard to break up. We will no doubt have stiffer tests in the coming months and setbacks, no doubt but there is a visible team bonding/togetherness and real will to win which is great to see. No weak performances whatsoever today and a fantastic platform to carry this on. Courtney Cameron who was as always a thorn in the Nuneaton defense sadly had to go off with an injury which I hope is not to serious as he has been on fire of late and was a key part in our early threats which wore them down. As always consistency will be the key any sort of momentum that is required to be at the sharpe end and challenging but I sw plenty to suggest we could get even better and stronger as the season progresses which is great news for everyone.

A fantastic first half performance that simply blew Nuneaton away! It had everyone you hope for - slick passing, great movement, skill, invention and 3 first half goals! We reached the same sort of heights that we did many years ago under Leroy. I've seen some decent performances since under Buckle and Ling but this surpassed them. When all your 4 midfielders and 2 strikers all are very capable of turning on great skill, flair and can finish, when they click like today it is a joy to behold. Crowd 2,177 with a decent 200 from Nuneaton. When you start to feel sorry for the opposition fans and keeper you know you've had a good day! Sponsors MOTM Richards, twitter MOTM his midfield partner Young.
Torquay started positively and it was a question of whether we could convert our chances that came along. We had about 3 early close shaves and a good penalty shout turned down. However just before our opening, Nuneaton looked certain to score. In their best move of the match, the ball was pulled back to an unmarked player about 12 yards out. He shot powerfully but Rice at full stretch made a remarkable parried save. On 21 minutes just when you thought Torquay might again struggle to score, Young gave us the answer hitting a peach of a shot from outside the area low down that gave their keeper no chance. So that's 2 in 2 weeks that our central midfielders have delivered, something we could only dream about last season. Young's second goal on 29 minutes was from a glorius team build up. It started with Ajala who laid the ball onto O'Archie on the right. O'Archie shrugged off a defender and planted the ball across where the advancing Young pounced from close range. A goal that had quality written all over it. Cameron sadly limped off and was replaced by Chappel with Ajala switching to left wing. For the rest of the half Torquay were sensational and Downes headed our third from a Young corner. 3-0 at half time was a fair reflection of proceedings. What I particularly enjoyed was our movement off the ball. I loved the way we often had an overlapping player on a wing. All our players played a part and even players like Cruise and Tonge were showing confidence on the ball and were playing a part in our decent moves. Cruise finally was looking a decent player he should be bearing in mind his past with Arsenal.
The second half was a bit of an anti-climax and we did not reach the same heights as the first. Our fourth was thanks to work on the left from Ajala whose somewhat mis-hit shot eluded everyone except Bowman at the far post who finished off from close range. 4-0 was richly deserved and the crowd was baying for more. There were "ole's" from the yellow army and the Nuneaton fans showed their sense of humour and joined in when they had possession. Near the end there was a bit of a fracas in their box and Brown got his second yellow and our own MacDonald got booked. Torquay used their 3 subs but there were no more goals much to the relief of Nuneaton.
So a great afternoon at Plainmoor today and our spirits were greatly lifted today after our last 2 bleak seasons. Well done Hargreaves and all the players. There is something special brewing!

Thank you for the match reports, gents; unanimous in their praise of the entire team. I thought we may have a better season than some were predicting but I didn't envisage stuff like today. I would imagine the feelgood factor was sky high as our fans left Plainmoor. It certainly is in Florida!
I know it's early days but if CH were to get us promoted, what a great double that would be - promoted as a player and then again later as the manager of the same club. I wonder how many others have that claim to fame?

A great performance, particularly in the first half where we completely dominated the game and Nuneaton could not cope with our pass and movement. If you think in addition to the goals, we had two very good penalty shouts from Bowman, hit the post from a Young free kick, had a chance that bulged the side netting, a one on one with the keeper as well as some good long range half chances akin to the opening goal, then Nuneaton were lucky to only be three down with all eleven on the field of play! They couldn't handle Cameron at all and were also lucky he limped off after only half an hour.
Nuneaton did have a couple of chances, the first while the scores were level when a break down the left was cut back in for a free shot inside the area that was well saved by Rice although it was a nice height for him. Later in the half a glancing header from a free kick landed on the roof of the net. I think the first goal came from a nice passing exchange between Young and Ofori-Acheampong and a long range shot ended up nicely in the bottom left hand corner of the net! The second came a counter attack where Ajala sent Ofori-Acheampong on his way towards the far right corner and having wriggled free of his defender was able to cross the ball from the bye line to that man Young again who scored with a nonchalant flick from close range. Ofori-Acheampong almost got on the score sheet himself when through against their keeper but unable to get the ball away. The third goal was regulation from Downes, getting to the ball at the far post from a corner, possibly helped by a dummy run more central in the goal mouth.
I thought the level of the second half dropped some what from the heights of the first period but to be fair, the game was over as a contest. We did almost score early in the half when Ofori-Acheampong was able to burst through on the left towards the near post and if his cut back was a little bit more crisp and accurate then Bowman would have had a tap in. Bowman did get on the score sheet himself when some good work from Ajala saw him break through on the left and although his cross was a little tentative it seemed to split the keeper and defenders leaving a gap for Bowman to jubilantly poke home on the edge of the six yard area!
Thereafter, we had alot of possession and chances but couldn't quite get that final ball in. The defence played well in supporting our attacks and thought both full backs had excellent games. MacDonald was also able to drive the ball forward confidently and even had an audacious shot from range that wasn't too far away. Only negative from the match was the injury to Cameron but Don't think it was too bad and hopefully was more precautionary, particularly after going off when the second goal went in. Chappell is not quite up to his best yet and think this run out will have done him some good!
My expectations are rising....

Nuneaton were poor but that need not take away from a super performance from Torquay. Had it finished 7 or 8 nil, then there could have been no complaints. It was the best football I have seen from a Torquay team since O'Kane et al tore Plymouth apart at Home Park. Really good brand of football being developed and it could just be that Hargreaves team are a little ahead of schedule in terms of challenging for the play-offs but we are nicely tucked amongst the chasing pack at the moment.
The thing that pleased me the most today was the excellent, composed performance of Tom Cruise. Much maligned, slated by many, I hope he can build upon his game today because that was the best left-back performance we have seen at Plainmoor for a couple of years - he didn't put a foot wrong. Well played, Tom, and I hope people get off his back now.
I think everyone played their part - Rice pulled off an early save when the Nuneaton player had a virtual open goal at 0-0 and it could have been very different if they had something to protect, so Rice certainly played his part in the victory.
Tonge, like Cruise, had a great game - he was actually the attacking threat, I think Hargreaves has wanted from his full-backs and it wouldn't surprise me if Tonge/Downes, followed Chapell by coming off the transfer list.
The midfield pair of Young and Richards is what we have been crying out for since O'Kane left. Richards is a real diamond and I don't think we will keep him for long and Young is growing into his captain role especially well. Ajala and Cameron, were particularly threatening and what joy to have two forwards who look like they can do some damage.
That team would be doing ok in League 2 - certainly better than what Knill was fielding a year ago and probably at a fraction of the cost. Hargreaves deserves some credit for assembling a promising young team that is capable of playing some stunning football. An excellent day.

Just to reiterate what everyone else is saying, we were very good today. Best performance I've seen from us in years. Yes, it is fair to say that Nuneaton did leave a lot of space today - from very early on it felt like we were playing against 10 men. But we capitalised on that
Hargreaves deserves enormous credit for moving us in the right direction - I've been critical in the past but the bigger picture is we're a much better, more positive team than we were when he took over, despite numerous handicaps. All the starters had great games today. Young and Bowman are quality players at this level and hopefully they hang around long enough to build a side around. Downes should be taken off the transfer list - he's done enough now to prove he's good enough. Even Cruise and Tonge looked good today
I like how Duane has become an immediate fans' favourite too. It would be easy to just brand his performances as great effort but it's more than that. At this level, he's really good at what he does - frustrate defences by being awkward, physical and intelligent. Give him technical ability and he'd be soaring through the leagues - but if he wasn't so raw, he wouldn't be with us. If we can develop him, he'll make us a lot of money, along with Cameron

It was a great game and a pleasant surprise to have 'paid entertainment' rather than pain.
Good all 'round performances from our back 4 with McDonald and Torry Canyon Downes being excellent. Midfield excellent - hope that Cameron is too badly injured. Thought that young Chappers lacked a wee bit of conviction. Front two top notch.
I think Nuneaton Town were very poor and the game should be put in context the same way. Yes the team have to be beaten but lets wait till 5pm next Saturday before we get the Promotion back to the Football League banner out!

Nothing further to add than has already been said. Was my first game at Plainmoor for ages, and it was a treat. Whether Hargreaves' style will stand up to waterlogged pitches, injuries and better sides than Nuneaton, it's hard to say. But if we play as well as we did yesterday we could be in for an exciting season.
It was good to see over 2,100 up there yesterday and hopefully crowds will rise after our good start. I was quite impressed with Nuneaton bringing 200 fans, although less impressed with a few of them leaving on 60 minutes (when our 4th went in) and chanting "What a waste of money!" at the end. I've seen Torquay on the end of some tonkings away from home, but I can't remember our fans embarrassing us quite as much as that.
