No, a few years to go yet, October 1954 in fact.

1948 - 1949 season - highest position yet at ninth! A certain Sammy Collins comes to the club.

This subject may have been raised previously, if so I apologise! Anyway, I have another life other than football and it involves anything to do with railways. To that end I have been scanning old aerial photos which are now in the public domain via a web site that is easy to access and set up an identity to be able to look more closely at the images. The web site is britainfromabove.org.uk and it based on photos taken by a company called Aerofilms. Among many thousand images it has a selection of Torquay photos three of which show the ground back in the thirties. For those who are interested, look at photo references: EPW033411/EPW033407/EPW033711. None of them appear to show any terracing on the pop side which appears to be quite open but the cow shed is evident as is the original main stand. Perhaps someone more technically minded than I am could copy the images and crop out unwanted bits to show the ground as it was some ninety years ago.

I’m pretty hopeless with the tech side, too, on here. Jon helpfully posted some old photos from the first games in the late 20’s in the history room years ago I inherited from my grandfather and it was hats on the grandstand side and flat caps on the Pop. Totally open, stood behind a rope with no obstruction to view of Marnham Road housing. Will enjoy looking those up when back on the laptop later, gateman.
I’m reasonably sure they will have been from our first League game, as they were in a pile with the Swindon 9-0 and Huddersfield FA Cup programmes.

Bidding ended at £155. I wonder who got it.
