Another one of those lovely plain black-and-white programme covers from over sixty years ago. Alpine Joe has already informed us that Harold MacMillan was MP for Bromley. He'd have been recently returned to parliament by some of the people who travelled down to watch Bromley at Torquay that day. Clearly, what with a recent trip to the Festival of Britain just up the road, you could say they had never had it so good. Well, not just yet anyway.
A nicely-written piece about Ernie Edds. With his willingness to play in different positions - "I am not fussy. Anywhere'll do me" - and his "high-powered, net bulging shots" he sounds just like a 1950s Louis Briscoe.
I like the way Bromley are described as "gallant". Next they'll be plucky.
Stan Charlton was an Exeter man. He was in the squad for the 1952 Olympics football tournament, played many years for Leyton Orient (either side of a spell with Arsenal) and - in 1965 - took over from Frank O'Farrell as manager of Weymouth.
George Gillin on a ground hopping tour of Italy. Takes all sorts I suppose.

You confused me there. THE Stan Charlton played for Exeter in the 20s - and for England against Australia. www.rsssf.com/tablesb/britishfatours.html#1925ENGThis one was his son. Seems like "one that got away" for City. Another Bromley / Exeter link - world snooker champion John Pulman started out as John Pulman from Exeter and ended up as John Pulman from Bromley. Not a lot of people know that.
