With Timbo posting this programme in the wake of our recent game against Halifax, it's a reminder there are several clubs which we've faced at each of the third, fourth and fifth tiers of English football. And, in one or two cases, Division 3 (S) as well.
Not that this is currently the same Halifax club we opposed in the Football League. Never mind, because we met the old club during its dying days in the Conference last time. This merely adds to the curiosity.
And, when you stop and think about it, what were Halifax doing in the old Division 3 back in 1971? Well, quite a lot to be honest. All told Halifax had twelve seasons in the third tier between 1958 and 1976: five during 1958-63; seven between 1969 and 1976. That's more than us and Halifax's best finish was third in 1970/71.
I would imagine Halifax supporters recall this time with a certain affection. Just like we do. It rather adds to my theory that, for the majority of long-term Football League clubs, the best of times are actually very good indeed.
