Don't know what Sturrock said during his 4 days with us but since then we have scored 6 without reply and are looking as though we are going to finish with 4 wins on the bounce Jinx or what

Should have held my counsel until the final whistle blew. No matter, a draw against the last club that could have made the play-offs is encouraging. The last time we put a decent end-of-season run together was 2010 when we won 6 and drew 2 of our final 8 games. The last 4 games being an identical W3, D1 as this season, and the following season we went to Old Trafford in the play-offs. How great would it be to repeat that feat!

Thanks to those who posted their thoughts on the match! So another season gone, one that flattered to deceive but ended up being little more than consolidation...

Good job Sturrock didn't stay . Would Imagine this run of results would have all been put down to him and all his doing with Hargreaves left in an even worse position. Its a strange old game.

Is it not beyond the realms of possibility that Sturrock said something to CH, that CH subsequently tried? Along the lines 'Play him there, move him wider, create some space there' sort of thing? You go to the matches, Pete, so what changed to turn us into one of April's form teams? Cos, something must have. My only wish is that we carry this form into next season.

You go to the matches, Pete, so what changed to turn us into one of April's form teams? Cos, something must have. My only wish is that we carry this form into next season. When you say 'form teams' it conjures up an idea of flowing, effective football. I don't think it is that Hargreaves happened upon a winning formula but more likely that the games just went that way. Two of those wins were against appalling sides in Altrincham and Lincoln. Could it be the presence of Lavercombe instead of Rice? possibly, but I think the opposition we had in the remaining fixtures were just so bad, it was almost harder to lose. Even Macclesfield, for a promotion chasing team, looked woeful and it sort of illustrates just how disappointing it is to have performed so poorly, in a league full of sub-standard teams. When we came down in 2007, I remember thinking that the Conference wasn't that much lower in standard than League 2. This year, the gap is much wider. Other than Woking, Forest Green and Gateshead, I struggle to think of a team that has impressed me this season. A poor, poor division and any team with half-decent players should be able to put a run together because more often than not they will be playing against dross. It is a massive failing of our club that for just two months of the season - Sept & April - we have been competitive.

Thanks for the comments, Hector. It is frustrating for me not to be able to get to games so I have no idea of how good or bad any opposition may be. It just shows how statistics mean nothing; 3 wins and a draw, with 6 scored and only one conceded looks good on paper but from what you're saying maybe we should have expected better.
As I said several times, I was never carried away by our early results because they were all against teams below us in the league at the time. As soon as we started playing the top 10, it all became unravelled, and we couldn't buy a win.
I would like to remain positive and now CH has had a whole season in this league, I would like to think he has some ideas about how to get us out of it next season. It will be interesting to find out about the new owners and their vision for the club. I can't for a minute believe that they are only coming in just to take over underwriting our losses every season.

The crowds are so low these days, that is has become an increasing trend that I get to spot myself in Barton's photographs. There's me, on the Pop, to (looking at the photo) the right of the yellow steps, leaning on the railing, wearing grey, amongst 3 others.
