Only MacDonald and Richards of the starting XI against Macclesfield had played a competitive game for Torquay before. Including two subs, we had eleven players making their competitive first-team debut.
This was the first time this had happened since TUFC's very first competitive match at Dawlish on 6 October 1900.
We have had ten debutants on three occasions:
First Western League game 1921/22 - only keeper Bernard Gartrell had played for Torquay Town in the Plymouth and District League.
First League game 1927/28 - only keeper Lawrie Millsom had played for TUFC in the Southern League.
First game 1928/29 - after our disappointing first league season, we signed a whole new team, but right-half Bob Preston had played for us in the Southern League before moving to Argyle.
