Devon FA XI 0 Torquay United XI 6 Finch 2 (12,77), Chamberlain 3 (20,62,85), Muromedzi (52)
1 Dan Lavercombe (Scott Corderoy at H/T)
2 Sam Hancox 5 Ben Gerring 6 Ian Rowe 3 Lewis Woodmore
8 Will Hancox 7 Sam Chaney 4 Ashley Yeoman 11 Shepherd Murombedzi
9 Sean Finch 10 Jamie Chamberlain
So 5 Torquay United players (keeper and midfield 4) plus 7 borrowed.
An enjoyable evening. An excellent bridge-building community exercise.
We saw the good and bad of Murombedzi - brilliant skills, lightning pace and a complete lack of awareness and team ethic. I suppose he has the bits you can't coach and lacks the bits you can coach.
Superb cameo from Corderoy. He is about the size of me and Neville Southall put together but totally commanded his box, organised his defence and threw the ball out accurately to a man in space every time.
Strikers looked excellent local league players - but there is a world of difference between the SDL and National League. I expect they could play at Tiverton or Bideford if they wanted to stretch themselves and commit to the extra travelling.
Of the guest players, Ben Gerring would be closest to National League standard having played a lot of Conference South football - including playing alongside TUFC legend Elliot Benyon at Hayes & Yeading. He looked calm and assured at centre back, but to be honest he was never really tested by a toothless Devon side.
My understanding of the selection criteria for the Devon FA team is that they do not include contracted professionals - which is why the team is not packed out with Bideford and Tiverton players.
