We come into this game on the back of two away wins but if we are to have any hope of staying up then we need to do the business at home. Once again, we are up against a relegation rival and this six pointer would bring us level with Welling at least.

In order to catch either Altrincham or Halifax nothing less than 3 points will do this evening.

Biggest game if the season so far....mind you that will probably be the case for most of our remaining games. Three points would really give us a lift. Hope we get a decent turn out.

This is becoming nerve wracking. It was a lot less stressful when we kept losing!

My first visit for a few games and a pleasant suprise in store. Nico seems to have started creating his own team now and im quietly impressed with some of the recruits, particularly with Rees and Racchi in the midle of the park. The back four looked quite solid and Blisset reminds me of an early Scotty Rendell. To be honest, with a couple of positions strengthened, I would suggest we wouldnt be far off the playoff places. Have to creep to safety first though.
Upsides- Centre midfield and the back 4 looks good. Blisset could probably do with a quicker partner to play off him, though Harrad has the experience to find useful positions to receive the ball in. Downsides- No idea what Ajala and Richards provided. Neither seems able to pass to a yellow shirt regularly or for that matter to hit the target. Allen looks really quick and posed more of a threat in the 30 minutes he was on than Ajala did for the first hour.
If im going to be brutally honest, Welling did look a poor side and once the first goal went in they looked beaten.
Sponsors MoM was Smithy but it could honestly have been one of 6 or 7 players. With home games against Halifax, Kiddy and Alty to come could the Great Escape be on? Made me laugh to hear it over the tannoy though...

A hard fought win against a Welling side that were up for it but did not create too many chances and while we had more opportunities to score, both of our goals had an element of fortune to them. Welling lost a player to injury after one minute with their defender under pressure chasing our first ball played down the flanks in their half. However, for the first ten minutes we had a lot of defending to do with a couple of corners / free kicks with one dead ball shot only just over. After that we played our way into the game and had some good chances. The best was a headed corner from Smith which looked in but their keeper pulled off a good reaction save to keep parity. Ajala was put through but shot well over when should have done better. Their best chance came when the ball came out to midfield and their player was not closed down and his 25 yard shot dipped wickedly to bounce off and over the bar. Half chances were also created with Harrad and Richards but we went into half time scoreless. The second half started with Berry making a tough challenge to win the ball, however to the ire of the crowd, was adjudged to be illegal and somehow picked up a yellow to boot as well. However, we were able to maintain the momentum of the first half by continuing to pressurise Welling. The turning point in the match however was when Iffy Allen came on for Ajala. This was my first view of him and he has a fair bit of pace which really comes to the fore as a substitute. His first foray up the field saw us win a corner and a deep cross was headed into the goal from a narrowish angle by Smith which the keeper got a hand to low down on or just over the line. MacDonald then tried to force the ball over the line but the goal was given anyway. It was marginal and I have seen them not given..... We continued to pressure the Welling goal and Butler had a good attempt at the near post which their keeper managed to smartly save. However, a good move saw Butler given space on the left and bring the ball towards the six yard box near the by-line and his cross looped off a defender's boot at the near post for an unmarked Iffy to bundle the spinning ball in at the far post to make the game more or less safe. What was pleasing is that we continued to pressure the Welling goal so that they were defending more than attacking. Blissett got clear of two defenders and his shot past the keeper was only just wide and Harrad was not too far off getting on the end of it either! He actually makes a very good target man and won a lot of headers during the game. Think he will form a better partnership with someone that has a bit more pace though. Good to see Verma back on the pitch which will give us saw more options over the coming games. So three wins in a row without conceding, I am actually looking forward to going to Plainmoor again. On the walk back to the car my son asked when we last lost? - the opposite question that he normally has asked this season!!
