Williams got some serious stick when he came on at Woking. Ex-Card, I think he'll be fired up and have a good game.

A big missed opportunity and I fear Torquay will be exiting the cup sharpish on Tuesday. I won't get too excited about Monday's draw. With our dismal away form, it will be a huge shock if we win the replay. It was the same old story today as it has been this season, Torquay simply fizzled out in the second half and it was a case only if we could hold out, or as more likely concede. In fact watching Torquay is a bit like watching a firework in the air. It starts promising, sparkles a bit but you then see it gradually fading away until there's nothing left to see. It was so predictable again today. Those around me were again questioning Nicholson's ability to manage the team. Again, why does the part-time opposition appear much fitter in the second half? Why does Nicholson not change the formation or shape but instead keep to the same narrow diamond formation and his substitutions are like for like. His substitution on 65 minutes was totally bizarre - Ward for Verma at right back. Verma, returning from injury today, did not look injured and seemed surprised when he went off. At that stage of the game, Torquay could not get going and desperately needed fresh impetus in midfield or attack. Ward for a lightweight Chaney would have been beneficial. By the time Chamberlain replaced Williams on 88 minutes, we looked well finished as a team. Crowd 1,300+ with 48 from Woking. Sponsors MOTM going to McGinty.

Luke Young was our outstanding player in the first as Torquay started lively. Young's early goal from around 25 yards was a beauty going low into the far corner at pace. Young range of shots and deliveries were excellent and he was normally part of our good moves. Torquay worked hard and Lathrope was doing well with his tackling and passing. It was not a complete performance but we looked dangerous when attacking. Young had another decent shot parried and we had some good team moves. At the other end, Moore made a great reflex save but was also at fault at times with his handling and on one occasion was caught out of goal and Rowe-Turner made a fine clearance under his own crossbar.

Instead of capitalising on our lead, Torquay's whole game just fell away in the second half. We could not keep the ball, mistakes crept in and Woking took over. McGinty made some fine last ditch defending on a few occasions when Woking were about to pull the trigger. Rowe-Turner also saved the day when the ball came across the goalmouth. Ward struggled at right back so the substitution made matters worse. Williams had a decent shot parried in the second half but our attempts were few and far between. On 88 minutes, we lost the ball (was it Ward?) just inside our own half that put Woking through with just one defender trying to cover. The ball was planted low into the Torquay net and I fear that moment could define our season. Torquay's players heads visibly dropped and Woking with home advantage have the initiative.

As for the players performances. Young brilliant in the first half, back to his best. McGinty - great defending second half. GG also did a good job dealing with the second half onslaught. Rowe-Turner - good and bad, some good interceptions and good going forward but gave the ball away in dangerous areas in the second half. Chaney - too lightweight and so does not contribute enough. Williams - you feel he's got the ability to score but does not impose himself enough. You feel he's not happy at our club. Richards and Lathrope - good commitment in the engine room and made some timely tackles. I would rather forget Richards shooting attempts today. Blissett - disappointing today. Tried but his touch was not so good at times and lost possession and I cannot remember any goal attempts from him.

Until we can put in a decent second half performance and not just fade away (cue Oasis), we are going to seriously struggle this season. This has to be addressed by the manager and sorted. We are full-time professionals unlike a lot of our opposition but don't look it. Not good enough!
