Much has been made of GI's failures, has anyone got any news that can balance that ...? Clarke Osbourne and Alpine Joe. AJ for a third time could trot out that recent Swindon Speedway article re development that might now happen there after 10 years where fans and the local authority worked hard to ensure it wasn't just nearby housing developed. GI get credit and thanks in that article after a ceremonial ground-break. Almost forgot - Dave Phillips said they were all about on pitch success last Friday.

I doubt we'll see or hear any facts, truth or common sense Alpine I predict more muddy waters and further underhand dealings will follow. Our a small but knowledgeable fan base is angry and upset at the way this has all been handled and I fear they will just release a minimal statement and crawl back into their shell to prevent bloodshed. There are some Interesting comments from a poster on another forum (mr distance) suggesting he was the go between representing a Chinese consortium that had a generous offer rejected at the last hour on Friday. When I first saw this I was naturally scptical but having read his follow up posts I have become more and more convinced this was a genuine offer from another group. Mrdistance is saying now that he has "told all" and submitted in detail the entire goings on of last Friday and events leading up to the boards final decision and subsequent announcment to the H&E. I have no reason to disbelieve this poster and its worth scrutinisation if you get the chance to read the thread. Whether our hungry intrepid sports journalist will report those details is very doubtfull mund you. DT and co seem to like their cosy little "mid ground columnist" life and wont want to upset the apple cart at this sensitive time. At the end of the day we all want openeness, honesty and the bloody truth. Where and when the full details and facts of events will come out, if ever, god only knows Sorry, Pete, but I remain a sceptic about the Chinese connection. I have not seen a shred of evidence to support that assertion. And having lived in Hong Kong for 4 years I know that the only thing that would interest Chinese businessmen is profit, which could only have come from getting possession of Plainmoor. And if you think GI is ruthless, work alongside the Chinese for a while. In my experience, they redefine the word, through hard work, brains, and a willingness to take big risks. Indeed Florida i understand fully. They would have been looking to use the aquasition as business venture of some kind to make a profit without doubt. Pretty clever and shrewed people the Chinese I had a brother theat lived and worked in Thailand for 12 years and he told nme many tales of Chinese corruption and underhand deals. To the the native Thai's the Chinese were not well liked though as we all know though we should never generalise there are sure to be just as many good honest Chinese businessmen. I believe that DP has now more or less confirmed there was interest from the USA and Hong Kong syndicates but they were unable or unwilling to garuantee any funds on time in the short term. The latest statement in the HE are a little more encouraging though the proof of the pudding is in the eating as the saying goes and time will tell. From the latest statement of intent I must admit to being more optomistic. Immediate injection of cash. A long term five year plan. The intention to bring back a youth academy. As I had anticpated a new ground tha can incorporate other sports and revenue streams. Yes Plainmoor will consigned to the history books but if that's what it takes to make the club viable and for it to continue to exist then I have no argument with that whatsoever. The alternative is continued struggle and decline until the football ceases to exist.

As someone who no longer attends Plainmoor, partly because of decrepitude and partly due to disillusionment, but who first went there in 1954 and lastly in 2011, I have picked out the following sentences from the HE article which appeared earlier today:
"And he undertook to invest funds to carry the struggling club through to the end of the season, while drawing up a wide-ranging five-year plan for the longer term future."
Only to the end of the season ?
"There had been real fears that United might slip into administration without a sale, and Osborne said: The club faces a requirement for immediate investment, because it trades unprofitably. The key thing for us now is to provide as much investment as it needs to ensure that the club trades properly through this season, not through crazy cost-cutting."
Torquay United is not a trading company. It is a football club whose team plays football for the benefit of its supporters.
"Everyone is going to be part of that review, including Kevin (Nicholson), supporters, business people and the local authority."
Why should Kevin Nicholson be part of the review, unless GI are planning to dispense with him ? Why would the supporters be part of the review, unless GI could not care less about the generations of local people who have followed the club through thick and thin ? Why would the local authority be part of the review, unless GI's overriding intention was to acquire the freehold to Plainmoor and redevelop it for profit ?
"But he said: There are many reasons for seeing the club's future in a new stadium facility. To climb the footballing ladder, the club must be A. financially stable and B. have facilities which the public generally demand there."
Of course there are many reasons for kicking the club out of a ground which has become an historic venue for so many supporters over so many years, namely selling it off to be developed for a housing project, and thus make more millions. And what other facilities does he think the public in Torquay generally demand ?
I'm afraid that I am among those who believe that this takeover will eventually result in the end of Torquay United Football Club, and yet I believe that I have every right to say that I really don't care. I was happy to be a passionate and fully committed supporter from 1954 until 2011, but now all I can do is to wish those who want to keep the football club alive the very best of luck.

Stewart I do admire your loyalty. I'm at least a decade behind you but like yourself my loyalty has been tested of late, very close to breaking point.
I do understand what your saying but the world has changed so much in that time frame from 1954 and football is unrecognisable both on and off ofthe pitch. Its not the same sport I fell in love with and many of the aspects that drew me in are no longer to be seen. Sadly there has to be change, basically because money rules now in every aspect of life including our beloved game. Without change there would be no club and no future and it was as good as gone eighteen months ago. It remaains to be seen whetehr GI follow through with their retoric. You can try all you like to read between the lines we all have been doing the same and believe me those words in the press release were very carefully chosen, they can be interperated many ways but for sure this club had reached its final tipping point. The other last minute bid may have even been a worse deal but you can be sure that whoever it was would only have been in it to make money maybe by a diferent route but their goals would be exactly the same - they had to be. Whatever option was chosen would have been a risk including TUST ownership my personal opinion is that TUST ownership would hae faltered and struggled to raise aenough interest or funds to move the club out of debt or forward to any dgree and TUFC would have continued its downward trend to oblivian. Others will quite rightly argue the opposite but radical thinking and fresh ideas iare essential if we want to have anything worthwhile, unfortunately that involves taking risks. Yep I have been at a very similar stage to you fed up with the whole pointless exercise, after all we saw this club and the game at its best, in the sixties for me and ten years before for you - but its hard to shake off though isn't it?

Chist, I wish I could understand what your trying to say Joe. To bloody cryptic for this small brained simpleton. He is doing it on purpose, for what reason I have no idea, but nobody could surely own a computer and be so illiterate. Either that, or he is permanently drunk and cannot see either the keyboard or what he is typing. Actually, I now realise that what I have said is very naive. Having looked at his previous postings, in particular the long one on 18 December, I can see that he is perfectly capable of using correct spelling and grammar, and pretends to be illiterate when it suits him. I have no idea what he hopes to gain from doing so.

floridagull. ... 4 children read the forums. I would have thought that more than four children read the forums. Clearly there are more than four children making comments.

Unfortunately not, Mervo. We are dealing with one very big child... Colin Authers (Joe, bay52, random illiterate...)
Note the posting style from TUFC fans:

Also, if you click on the name Joe, it comes up with the name (Colin) in brackets - it's like the idiots forget who their own alter-egos are. I've got a screenshot of the Joe profile just in case it gets changed.
Sue me if I'm wrong Colin. You can do that from the proceeds of your companies that have never made a penny.
