If you've already been put in a cage that even Houdini couldn't get out of, then saying that you won't be escaping, does little more than underline the reality of your situation. Both myself and Rob have given regular reminders to TFF members of the watertight guarantee that Pete Masters negotiated in the long term interests of the club. It's Pete's expert negotiating and binding agreement with G.I that really carries the weight, and although Clarke's verbal assurance is a nice added touch, it's very much of secondary importance .

When it comes to stadia development, an Osborne 'absolute' guarantee and a Masters watertight negotiation do indeed appear to exhibit certain similarities. Eastville, Smallmead, Silver Bow - its all much of a muchness.

Herald now reporting on these developments - linkApparently CO has given an "absolute guarantee" that a new stadium will be built first? Anyone else see that? Osborne's absolute guarantee. Is that on the basis of that last interview. That's that sorted, then. Has he made any promises regarding stadia before, HE author? Sort it out, HE and do your job. Just revisited what CO said in response a question about building a stadium before Plainmoor is redeveloped. "Does a new stadium need to be in place before anything happens to the old stadium? The short answer is yes, absolutely. If you think about it, this club is a big club and there aren't a set of circumstances, where in my view, you can't take a holiday for a season and say we will be back next year. Youcan't go and play somewhere else, you can't go out and play on a local team's pitch, look at it, 2000 plus supporters, you cannot accommodate them, you cannot get a registration within the National League, youcannot provide the facilities. The answer is obvious, absolutely, you have to have a new home in place and indeed, in the logistics of it, you have to move in the closing season. Youabsolutely have to get that." So in fairness to the Herald, looking at what CO said above, absolutely was used three times but guarantee unfortunately not once. Really don't like how he used the word "you" as opposed to "I" or "We" As he himself said, stating the bleeding obvious about the logistics and necessity of a having a new stadium in place. In other words neatly sidestepped the gist of the question which we all want to know which was, would GI build a new stadium, why it was needed and howis it to be achieved? That is before we get to what it is to be replaced with and would that set up be beneficial to the club in the long term....

Plainmoor Freehold Update from TUST Dear Member ... The decision to dispose of the Plainmoor Freehold has been postponed until 24th July 2017 (see below). It is our understanding that one of the reasons for the delay is to allow the Club Chairman Clarke Osborne time to put together a consultation paper that will form part of a report on which the decision by the Mayor will be made. I encourage ALL supporters of Torquay United to contact their local councillor and the Mayor and ask why after over 7 months the disposal of the freehold continues to be on the Agenda? I also encourage members to contact all of the election candidates in Torbay to ask what they intend to do to protect the heritage and home of Torquay United and ask everyone you know locally to do the same. TUST will be contacting each candidate and briefing them on the current situation if they aren't already aware of it, and asking them to make the future of Plainmoor an issue for debate and discussion during the campaign and to include it in their election manifestos and campaign materials. We will let members know as soon as possible when the full list of candidates for the Torbay and Totnes constituencies are known. Earlier this year an online petition was run and will be presented when the meeting to decide on the future of our home eventually takes place ... but I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to another petition that already has over 1200 signatures. www.ipetitions.com/petition/gordon-oliver-this-stadium-is-ours/? utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sign-pet Kind Regards ... The Herald are now reporting on the petition HERE Incorrectly reported on GI purchasing the lease although later quoted CO on buying the freehold. He does refer to financial and contractual terms to be agreed but how watertight they end up being remains to be seen.

I see in the latest TUST update there is a copy of the letter sent to the local authority about the ACV on Plainmoor and will be interesting to see as to how it pans out. Not sure if a mistake was made in listing the leasehold interest but TUST seems to think this is irrelevant...

link - good o see the Herald reporting on the freehold issues using Chelsea as an example. Also a further mention of the ACV on going issues. Perhaps a sign that DT position is starting to shift?

New communication from TUST regarding Dave Phillips comments in the Sunday Indy:-
Setting The Record Straight – Really? Dear Member … I read Dave Phillips’ recent Sunday Independent interview (see issue dated 28th May 2017) with disappointment as I found myself questioning his version of events. I can only conclude that his judgement at the time was either clouded by the natural desire of the previous board to recoup their investment or they genuinely did not understand that community ownership would result in a completely different business model to the one they had inherited.
Whilst Mr Philips makes reference to the Wrexham Trust presentation (and their still unspent funds), he failed to mention that this was in fact part of a detailed piece of work that had been carried out in the autumn of 2015 to explore and prove the viability of supporter ownership that would have preserved the owners’ investment.
This project was cancelled without reason in February 2016; although we now know this summary dismissal coincided with the arrival of GI. In August 2016 he approached TUST asking for our help to resolve the GI loan crisis.
It is no secret that we are not a cash rich Trust, but we put what funds we had at the disposal of the Club to investigate the feasibility of supporter ownership. This included a £2000 independent financial review that was funded by TUST.
From the very start of the discussions entered into regarding supporter ownership it was made abundantly clear that the size of any existing cash resources held by TUST was to a certain extent irrelevant to the community share issue and potential supporter ownership (had the issue been successful).
The only importance associated to the TUST bank account balance was in regard of our ability to fully fund the process and facilitate the share issue and any other related costs.
The timescales imposed on us by the terms of the GI loan meant a decision for or against a Community Share Issue had to be made by the end of October. We can now only surmise that an indication from the Mayor on the 24th October, 7 days before the deadline, to sell the freehold of Plainmoor persuaded David Phillips and his board to chase private investment instead; which as we all know, led us back to the waiting arms of GI. TUST has never claimed that a Community Share Issue would be successful, but had the question been asked and had the supporters of Torquay United been given the opportunity it is my belief we would now have a supporter owned club
Kind Regards, Michael

You could call it that, or maybe more appropriately a RED letter day for TUST members. With Michael Goulbourne announcing his decision to stand down as TUST chairman. That's probably the only big announcement today, as Herrera and players won't want to be deflected from concentrating solely on the game at Bromley. I expect that TUST members will assess their departing leader's tenure appropriately on another thread, but I would think that MG will be given great credit for rejuvenating TUST, even if it hasn't always achieved all that it would like to. I'm sure both members and non-members wish the very best to him and his family, and recognise the well-intentioned hard work he's put in during his time as TUST chairman. Think it is best to go in the appropriate thread chain. Probably very inconvenient for Alpine to see fans owned Exeter City have their best ever start to the season.... Many thanks to Michael for all the hard work he has done to move the TUST forward and I see that TUST have prevented the sale of the freehold on at least 3 occasions and I am really not sure where the club would be now if that had been sold......

rjdgull What is inconvenient is that I'm powerless to do anything about Admin moving my post when I would have far rather have left the TUST update thread for TUST members and admirers to pass on their thanks to Michael, and not have it as the venue for the inevitable digs at me, and my responses to them. That was predictable and I would have preferred to have kept any tit for tat sparring in a different thread....yet I've no choice but to go along with Admins preference. However, I note the marked contrast with, and the exact opposite approach that was taken with the Plymouth Parkway match report that I indicated should more appropriately be moved to the TFF Matchday Room. That this was then followed by other threads being moved from this section to 'Matchday' yet the Parkway game report being stubbornly singled out to remain here.....well draw your own conclusions as I've had to. I've used the search facility to look back on all my past comments on Paul Tisdale. I think he's a remarkably good Manager. I note that as far back as 6th August 2009 I posted: 'While I'm not expecting Bucks to exhibit abilities comparable to Tisdale who has continually sold his best players, Todd & Phillips, Mackie, Friend etc and still made vast progress I would like to see some signs that we wouldn't fall flat on our faces if we do have to tighten the reins'.My contention has been and remains, that Tisdale's managerial talents are primarily responsible for Exeter's relative good fortunes, and that they prosper more despite Trust ownership than they do because of it. I'll reiterate that I was attempting to actively avoid this thread being the one used to slug it out over a pro or anti TUST dust-up. To keep myself out of it, and allow TUST members and others to thank Michael in the way they wished. My recent experience is: Want it moved ? No chance ! Don't want it moved ? We'll move it anyway ! Obviously as with 'Parkway' there'll be only one winner here, and it won't be me. So best I bite my tongue in future, and will say no more on the subject .

Did not move your post Alpine, just quoted you in another thread which any member can do. The Parkway game is in the matchday room but on the second page. As I had not checked my emails today it was your post which alerted me to this and I was actually trying to credit you. Agree it is not the right thread for a dust up.

ELEVENTH OWERS PULLOUTDisappointing news for TUST members, as with a little over 24 hours to go before their AGM, Gary Owers leaves them with only his exhaust fumes as he motors back up to the North East, rather than attending their Q&A planned for tomorrow night. Still, it's not all bad news for our Red revellers, who I'm sure will be in the Christmas spirit anyway, and in buoyant mood given the team's recent good form. And they have eventually found...and let's hope it's been worth the wait.....an applicant (singular) for the post of TUST Chairman. It was high time someone was dragooned into this. Rumoured to be a Mr.Engels from Paignton, though TUST members will find out for sure tomorrow evening I'd assume. Let's hope tomorrow night's attendance figure is made public.....it's always nice to gauge the enthusiasm for TUST events among the local membership .
