Predictable - We give away our main striker, not many goals but ruffled defenders. Done nothing of any consequence to replace him and will continue struggle to find an equivalent . In the doo doo again we just don't learn do we? Support will drift away once again one or two Forrest Green performances a season are nowhere near enough, they were flukes in any case and this squad and the way its managed needs to be judged over the season and I'm not impressed at all. Nicholson has had a tough job but I'm wondering if the club as it is is really worth trying to save if it means continued failure, demise and disappointment. Last week against BW was bad enough I couldn't muster the effort to go and watch another dismal display and waste another £15 though my mate felt obligated as a season ticket holder - And he thought he had a great deal! Glad I chose to pick and choose my matches.

Ruddy dire to say the least.
Looking worse now that Moore K is off to Ipswich.
Is Harrad a direct replacement for Bliss? Or is Nicho on the lookout for a CF?

Agree, goalscorer required asap. Harrad and Reid don't work well together and Williams had a decent cameo although the fans were calling for him long before he came on. Basically, Woking wanted it more and got to the ball first time and again. Also they had the rub of the green from the ref after a very soft penalty.

From where I was it looked about the most nailed on penalty I've ever seen. Lee was far to weak and allowed his man to breeze past him into the box and then panicked and tripped him. The telling point is that it seemed that none of our players complained about the decision.

Another dire home performance and another defeat against a lowly team. The writing was on the wall as soon as Torquay went 1-0 down on 6 minutes to a soft penalty. Their heads dropped, we have no leaders to gee the team up, and no-one in the starting 11 who looks capable of scoring. Williams, our only striker we have who knows how to find the back of the net, was left on the bench again. And guess what happened when Williams was given a chance today - he scored. Crowd a desperate 1,593, with 51 from Woking, sponsors MOTM going to Sparkes. Even our big screen looked a sorry sight, symbolic of our decaying club. It was working, well just about but had several parts on the screen blacked out and needs a decent repair job done on it.
For the first 5 minutes Torquay started better than last week's game and with the drummer in the Pop side, there was some decent chanting. Lee, our loanee right back from Bournemouth, had a disastrous debut. First he got caught out of position and clumsily clipped their attacker from behind in the penalty box. There probably was not much contact but Lee's inexperience was fully exposed. The penaly was neatly dispatched sending Moore the wrong way. Torquay's early momentum deserted them and where was the leader out there to get Torquay's heads up? Nowhere and Torquay rarely troubled Poke in goal for Woking in the first half. There were plenty of groans from the home crowd as passes and moves went astray. Fitzpatrick's long range shot brought a parried save from Poke. Reid, who had a poor game, had his shot saved with Poke's legs when through on goal. Woking's second goal on 35 minutes was another soft one. A corner went to unmarked player who headed towards goal. Ex-Gull Saah was standing just in front of keeper Moore. Moore stayed on his line waiting for the catch but Saah deftly flicked a glancing header past Moore. Surely Moore should have punched the ball before it got to Saah's head? 2-0 and Torquay looked dead and buried and a better team could have embarrassed them.
Things rarely get better in the second half with Nicholson in charge. In fairness, at least he took off Lee and played 3 at the back with Chaney coming on after 57 minutes. This did result in Torquay playing the game more in Woking's half but things all looked a bit congested and Woking were comfortable. At least our wingers, Fitzpatrick and Sparkes made things happen but when a good cross did come in, there was no striker anticipating and timing his run like Keiffer Moore did a few weeks ago. Our strike force looked so lightweight both in physical presence, height and goal threat. Again it was our wingers who looked our only goal threat.
Williams replaced Harrad to cheers from the home crowd. We were clinging onto any sort of vague hope. He wasn't quite our saviour but he gave it a good go. Thanks to the stubbornness of Nicholson not playing Williams, I had forgotten that Williams does possess some decent qualities. He added some much needed physical presence in attack, won some headers, and put himself about making something out of nothing. And finally we had someone to stick the ball into the net. After a decent build up with Rowe-Turner releasing Sparkes on the left. Sparkes pulled the ball back from the by-line and Williams scored at close range into an empty net. Torquay put on some good pressure and Sparkes nearly scored but Poke saved the day with his legs. Too little, too late and Torquay only had themselves to blame for another poor performance and defeat.
Nicholson might be a likeable and decent chap but surely he has to ultimately take responsibility for his own decisions. Playing a pint-sized loanee youngster with hardly any experience at right back backfired spectacularly. He gifted Woking the first goal and was too lightweight and was later thankfully subbed. Rooney has done a much better job at right back recently. Speaking to GG at half-time it seems that himself, Young and Lathrope are only a couple weeks away from playing. Well that's a relief and we desperately need some experience and not just taking pot luck at some other team's academy. It's a big culture shock for them to suddenly play in the National league and today Lee looked like a fish out of water.
Racchi added some vital experience and leadership last season and how we could do with him again. The team is looking in a right mess again like last season and unless there is some repair work done, I do not see how we will survive. For starters, at least give Williams a decent run in the team and build our attack around him.
It was good to see Alex Rowe back in the directors box today and hopefully we will see him there on a permanent basis. Clarke Osbourne was in Bristol today but GI's number right hand man (the Michael Foot lookalike) was there. Plenty for them to talk about I dare say. It was another dismal day for Gulls supporters.

Once again we live in hope that there are four worse teams than us. Nothing much changes at TQ1.
