As mass hysteria breaks out among the Torquay Utd faithful over the lack of a managerial appointment most of us can concentrate on the important matter of what happens over an hour and half after 3pm tomorrow.
Whipped up into a frenzy by the apparent lack of urgency and the perceived prospect of young novice Robbie being in charge again - Until Christmas? Or as many seem to believe the permanent/cheap solution to our woes many plan to boycott or offer some sort of outside the ground protest. All in the best long term interest of the football club of course!
Could this really happen at sleepy non league Torquay?
Strange that the team coach should suddenly go up in smoke during a week when anti GI feelings were running high.
Coincidence? Perhaps.
That'l learn em!
With master tactician Robbie Herrera more than likely still to be controlling things and in charge of team selection once again things, on the face of it do not look to promising.
Robbie has at least accepted the responsibility whilst having weather the somewhat unfair criticism and the usual playground name calling.
Inevitable? it may be after being unable to halt the slide and run of poor results - inheriting a sub standard threadbare squad - until last week that is.
The 1-1 draw stopped the rot and was at least a starting point for better things to come. Well it can't get much worse can it?
That one moment of euphoria when we scored a goal and were leading a game was sweet and a much needed reminder of why we all bother!
Most would agree that there were some very encouraging performances against Chester even though the game should have been done and dusted well before the Chester equaliser but for the usual missed chances and an odd refereeing decision.
With a few bodies also likely to be returning from injury there looks finally to be some competition for places and stronger options off of the bench.
It will be great to see Josh Gowling back to organise the back line and coach the rest from on the pitch.
He IS a player who can and will make a difference.
Davis the mystery left wing back is close to fitness and Lathrope not far away ( God forbid!). Additionally Michee Efete will be available for selection so the back line selection will be an interesting one.
Debutantes Vincent Dorel,(In for the mistake ridden and injured Dan Lavercombe), George Dowling, Chinua Cole all brought something to the table and I would expect all to start along with Andy Haworth who had a very promising full debut.
James Gray and Ruari Keating did more than enough to also keep their place. Luke Young is a given though still has a tendency to drift out of games for my liking.
Jamie Reid hasn't changed still wasteful and fails to look up and play a simple ball and simply doesn't score enough goals despite a high work rate and the fact he DOES RUN AT AND TAKE ON defenders.
I can't knock him for that!
That's the core of our lot how about the opposition?
Wrexham, another ex football league "sleeping giant" have already lost three of their opening games eight but have won the other five and are currently on a run of four wins . All results were by a single goal margin, win or lose, with the exception of last weeks 2-0 over Bromley .
A very mixed start but one that sees them lying fourth in the table which just goes to show how valuable wins and three pointers can be.
Looking closer Wrexham have conceded only FIVE times in those eight games compared to our TWENTY goals conceded in eight.
It truly looks an impossible task on form at least but we have to hope that last weeks "promise" can be built and improved upon with the new manager likely to be in the stands studying the form and performances of players.
There will be nowhere to hide from Mr Westley that's for sure.
