I have been forwarded this entry from the Chalfont Wasps (Hellenic League) website: www.chalfontwaspsfc.co.uk. This man is easily recognisable - burly, middle-aged, white-haired - and I would urge extreme caution when approaching him. I hear that last week he went to Darlaston for a postponement and - this week - he saw the abandonement at Droylsden sandwiched between reserve games at Bradford and Huddersfield. I like my football but I'm at a loss with this one...
19/12/2008 - Footy Mad!! ( Part 2 )
Following on from the "Footy Mad!!" News Item dated 15th December the intrepid traveller has been identified as Mr Martin Bamforth from Taunton. Martin, who has clocked up 162 matches so far this season, having been on a multi-day football ground hopping excursion in the Manchester area this week, is still intent on coming along to see The Wasps in action in the near future.
So, you have been warned!! ….. keep an eye out for extreme weather conditions, electrical black out warnings, major motorway and local road work issues, civil disturbances and any other possible acts of God anywhere between Taunton and the Chalfonts!!
Martin, we look forward to seeing you, and to you seeing a full match with us very soon. We will most certainly be providing you with a congratulatory cup of Bovril or tea, or maybe something stronger!??!! Here is Martin's emailed actual account of events ....
The full story goes like this:-
Wed 12/11/08 Trip One - I went and watched Reading Res beat Gillingham Res 4-0 at Didcot Town at 2:00pm and then after the game I looked in the NLP and saw Chalfont Wasps were playing that evening and since I hadn't been there I was up for it. I arrived at the ground just after 5:00pm and sat in the car park, at around 6:15pm cars started turning up and going down the side of the ground (happy days) at 7:00pm still sitting in the car park in the dark thinking why the lights were not on so I walked over to the gate and saw nothing happening so quickly phoned to check and was told that due to a problem with the lights the game was OFF and the players were training. So back to the car and the NLP I saw Kentish Town were playing so set the sat-nav and off I went only to find that off also.
So Trip Two - Wed 10/12/08 I went and watched Yeovil Town Res beat Swansea City Res 3-0 at Yeovil at 2:00pm and then after the game I phoned to check your game was on and the person I spoke to said "Yes but he would take my number and let me know if any change" So as I came off the M25 the phone ring game OFF as so close and in need of a pit stop I continued and called in the ground for the pit stop and asked if anyone knew of a game that may be on and I was told about Kingsbury London Tigers so set the sat-nav and off I went only to arrive to see players putting kit in their cars and leaving game off.
So planned Trip Three Sat 13/12/08 only to be told "GAME OFF" when phoned. So looking on your website today 19/12/08 I see that your game on Tuesday is "OFF" (Sorry - I was thinking about it - Plus have a friend from Stourbridge also planning to come down for it) and I saw this news article "FOOTY MAD!!!! so I thought just for the record I would correct it as it was near but not quite. PLEASE BAN ME NOW and then you may get a game.
Regards
Martin Bamforth.
