Interesting - and made public with talk of paying a fee for another striker. Unheard of in recent times. Whether we can attract this latest target who was the man who scored twice in midweek is another matter. Certainly has the pedigree and potential and would be a somewhat of a coup for a club in our position. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42010729

Once Pete had stated he wouldn't be attending until he saw some serious action to address our goalscoring problem, then it seems the club realised they had no option but to act. Pete also made it clear that the solution just wasn't available 'in the building', and again it seems the club have sat up and taken notice, with our network of Finnish scouts pulling their fingers out and sending someone over for Gary to have a look at. The lad Gnabouyou could be the answer, and we might get a positive reply to our bid for another striker. If our position was more comfortable, then waiting for Gosling to make his return, for Pittman to be playing and match fit and for Rhys Murphy's ankle to fully recover would all be things we could contemplate without needing to rush out and put further strain on the wage bill by bringing in replacements. But whatever they add in work rate and determination, the likes of Jamie Reid and Ruari Keating can't really be described as clinical finishers. Reid brings enough to the table to have deserved his starting place this season, but you have to wonder whether Keating has the quality to make a go of it at this level. Credit to the club who have clearly been working behind the scenes to boost our striking power, and to Pete if it was his all important nudge that really got things moving .

Ahead of getting over confident, we need to secure the players first!

Whilst its encouraging to see the management and club showing some serious intent there's no way I would ever get ahead of myself Simon. In any case who's to say that even if Owers were able to get both of his targets, there are no guarantees they will produce the goods. They do at least see and acknowledge what we see week in week out so what Alpine says must be true - I must have had an influence!!! Its the toughest spot to fill in all honesty. What club in there right mind would release a ready made goalscorer? Having said that the rest of the squad look to be coming up to the mark with many improved and more disciplined performances. But again I find it difficult to judge or gauge as we have all become so accustomed to mediocrity.

HE reckoned yesterday that he agreed his deal and we were awaiting international clearance. Not heard or read anything since on that score.

Well, he made his debut today, early days yet as on for just the last 10-15 minutes and yet to make an impact but could offer something different to our other strikers.

Did he actually start a game? The first of a few I presume, Higgins next? McQuoid has his critics but probably the best of an average bunch so wouldnt be surprised to see him return. I didn't think Gnabouyou was what we needed in any case as once again he isn't a proper "hold up" physical target man. All pretty academic really. To expect any group of incoming players to come in that are firstly good enough and then to settle and have an effect from day one is a virtually impossible task. We've been doing it for three or four seasons now and still haven't got an answer to the obvious so why should that suddenly change over night. Midfield is also desperately wanting a bit of pace and creative quality to complement a slow but valuable Luke Young. Owers sees what we all see no doubt and will do his best but I fear it will all be in vain - it needs a small miracle now the gap is just to big and perhaps the club should be planning for the division below.
