Has anybody noticed a trend? 2006/07 Australia 5 England 0 in the Ashes, Torquay United bottom and relegated 2013/14 Australia 5 England 0 in the Ashes, Torquay United bottom and relegated 2017/18  ? Let’s hope Anderson and Broad get a few quick wickets on day 3 |

We were in a very healthy position when Cummins came to the crease just before lunch, but appear to have contrived a losing position thereafter. An excellent captain’s knock from Smith. Hopefully Root can now do the same.
An England draw or win now takes on a new meaning in the battle to avoid relegation.

There does not appear to be much between the two teams and I don't think there will be many if any draws. Possible to lose 5 tight matches which we see with our football team of even to win all five. Would not be surprised to see another 3-2 scoreline.

There does not appear to be much between the two teams. I agree with that. It’s not what I had initially anticipated with the Wood injury and Stokes omission, but Australia are not as strong as previous years, for sure. Batting wise over the series, you think Root and Cook for us and Warner and Smith for them. The rest is all to play for and we have some decent batting down to 8. Anderson looked to have tweaked his side when I stopped watching last night. Hopefully he can remain injury free. Him and Broad in tandem have looked decent thusfar. |

A bit "Ashen" to read the score when woke up this morning - Stoneman had just got out when I called it a night! Fair play to the Aussies as they totally dominated the game on day 4 and unless we get a couple of hat tricks to start the day a very comfortable win is on the cards for those Down Under.... |
