No game today - just a painful wait for results of fellow strugglers to see if we fall even further adrift.
Thought I'd better stick up the Boxing Day match thread early.
Dorel has returned to France, Barnum-Bobb suspended.
Gowling, Efete and Klukowski all injured.
Evans, Murphy and McQuoid returned to parent clubs.
Osborn, Anderson and Chaney all out on loan.
That leaves us with, at best, fifteen players.
Of these, Myrie-Williams and Gnabouyou were recently reported as being ill and Gosling as being short of match fitness and not even given a ten minute run against Maidstone when the game was lost.
So perm 11 from 12 and the unlucky man joining three crocks on the bench - with no defensive cover at all.
You wonder if we might "strengthen" by recalling Osborn, Anderson and Chaney!
Keeper Clarke, back 5 (including out-of-favour Higgins) and Young would appear certs, so it's really pick any four from five .Mostly likely to be Lathrope and Dowling in a three-man midfield, with Reid and Keating up front and Pittman on the bench.

Mixed bag of results for teams around us today and now an eight point gap but leaves us in a worse position as expected. Think it needs an immediate turn of form fortunes for us to get out the mess were in and now beginning to doubt we will be able to turn it around. Looks more like relegation to the NLS with every week that passes. Dodged the bullet too many times now and we think we will finally be found out unless of course Owers can pull off some sort of miraculous signings in the next fortnight.

Looking at the League table, it does rather look as if the bottom three of us, Guiseley and Solihull are currently cut adrift from safety. We need results fast, but fear our ‘waffer thin’ festive 15 may struggle to get them. Stranger things have happened, I suppose.
Available looks like:-
Clarke Davey, McGinty, Andrésson Higgins, Davis Lathrope, Dowling, Young, Gosling, JMW Reid, Keating, Pittman, Gnabouyou
The back 5 and keeper should obviously pick themselves if we are sticking with a back 5, although I wouldn’t put it past Owers to put JMW at right wing back over Higgins.

Flip a coin Phil. As we enter another new year with scant hope of avoiding another drop down the pyramid the prospect of a decent standard of football to watch in Torquay is slowly dissolving away. The last three or four seasons have been an unmitigated disaster. No matter who has come in to manage, the good the bad and the ugly with their varying approaches nothing has changed. I believe we have played all our cards, all our "jokers" and there are no aces left up our sleeves and we are following the familiar pattern of York City, Stockport County etc who are destined to wallow around in lower league obscurity after years of being established FL league clubs.
The endless rut of failure we're in has continued for far to long and we are well and truly entrenched and stuck in the tramlines unable to get out. The chances of Owers bringing in enough quality to miraculously turn our performances into promotion form over the second half of the season are practically zero though I don't doubt the will is there but if it was going to happen our competitiveness and points total would already have seen us well up the table. It hasn't happened - a couple of wins here and there and then the Maidstone debacle tells me how far we "haven't" come. I wont give up just yet - God I've said that for the last three or four seasons - but surely this is the season we will pay the price.
Looking at the next few fixtures with the squad that remains fit or available gives me little hope and I will be covering my eyes and ears as the results come in over the holiday.

OS is suggesting we may have Dorel and Efete to select from. Hope so. Both straight into starting X1 for me if so. Andrésson to the bench. However, I can see Owers thinking he has a got a better reason than JMW at right back to keep out Higgins if Efete is fit.
Flo - Have work sandwiched in between Ashes test and Eastleigh later. You’ve got to maintain a bit of hope, even if it is that which makes it hurt.
My choice:- Dorel Efete, Davey, McGinty Higgins, Davis Lathrope Young, Dowling Reid, Gnabouyou

We must be approaching the point when the next 4-5 games will determine our destiny. We cannot afford to drop too many points in order to get out of the relegation swamp. Failure to do so will lead to the drop. Can only hope for miracles!

Weather and pitch deteriorating after a positive start. This is Torquay though so predict match abandoned in the 70 minute after we take a 2-0 lead.

As predicted, Efete right back. You can set your clock by Owers. We looked the better side in that half. Most of their attacks coming down our weaker right side. Davey again looking shaky on the right of the back three. Efete (booked) might get sent off at this rate as he is off the pace while defending and appears to be blowing. Looks alright going forward, though. We are set up not to concede. Pleased to see Lathrope behind Young and Dowling. Think 1 goal will win this game. Hopefully we’ll get it.

Dowling has been poor Hollywood passes and daft fouls all game. They’re still targeting us down our right. Bracing for the Alamo now. Although Eastleigh seem very poor.
