Get rid. That's based on results, match reports and what I've seen.

He certainly isn't the man to lead us back up...he certainly is the man for Osborne's plans...he'll stay!

Despite that the players are fitter, are now square pegs in square holes, aren't rubbish anymore and are set up better to attack the opposition - NO
He's part of the team that are splitting opinion on whether to support the club next season in the Conference South.
Pitch forks and lighted torches anyone........

Owers got off to a difficult start for reasons that weren't all his fault. Then he gradually seemed to have got on top of things, with the team often creating enough gilt edged chances to win matches 10-0, yet somehow managing to fluff them all, game after game. But for all that, enough results appeared to turn around sufficiently for the 'we're not rubbish anymore' declaration to be given. And then he seemed to lose his way again for months on end, and brought in players who weren't good enough to improve us. For instance he'd seen Axel Andresson perform impressively at NLS level, but the player looked wanting when he was brought here at the next level up.
So in some ways I'd say Owers didn't adapt as well or as quickly to the National League as we'd hoped. Although I make allowances for having to follow on from a club legend and inheriting a new squad that was right royally p*ssed off at seeing their charismatic leader axed after a week and a half, in collusion with a fickle fanbase that encouraged such massive early season disruption, but now, unsurprisingly, wish to excuse themselves from the consequences.
Had we stayed up (It looks a 99% certainty that we're down now) then whether Owers was astute enough to get us challenging at the top end of the National League, would have been an interesting debate. On balance I'd have said at least give him another season now he's bedded himself in and has become more fully tuned in to the standard.
But as we're going down, I'm quite happy to keep him, as he'll be at a level he's familiar with and understands, and should have a stronger squad and better resources than he previously worked with at Bath City.
While I fully expect a Summer of reading doom, gloom, and negativity across the Forums, I'll be rash enough to put my head on the chopping block and say that potentially our season in the NLS might well be both successful and enjoyable. Had we, for the last five or six seasons, been consistently finishing in the top half or the top ten, and then suddenly had one isolated bad season that relegated us, then next season would have been all the harder to take. But because of the constant struggles, I feel that a season of 'More winning football' new grounds and new towns to visit, easier, shorter, and cheaper awaydays for fans, and a flashy new kit (you can't retain a relegation kit that screams 'failure' can you, surely ?) will make a pleasant change if approached in the right way. Some of our old favourites retained and some new signings specifically recruited for the promotion push next season, and Gary Owers should be well capable of having us challenging at the right end of the NLS table.
One concern I do have, is the allocation of promotion places at the next level down. Just the one automatic promotion place from a League of 22 teams. Just look at the National League North at the moment to see the sort of situation that can all too easily develop under the 'new rules'. You've got teams on 82 points and 59 points both in play-off positions. On top of that you'll have a team that amassed fewer points carrying that winning feeling into the play-off semis while their opponents wait around biting their nails and probably pondering the injustice of a rule change now bringing them back to level pegging with opponents they've proved to be vastly superior to, over the course of the whole season.
I would imagine that this time next season, we'll all be more satisfied with Gary Owers work, and speaking of him in more generous terms. A thrilling NLS season will do supporters the world of good after the disappointments and defeats that have been endured so often for too many seasons now.
It wouldn't surprise me if Owers will be relieved to bring the curtain down on this season that's been a big disappointment for himself and for all of us. But given his knowledge of the NLS and the encouragement and backing of the club's ownership, I'd retain him rather than sack him as we plan for the challenge of NLS domination.

If he has a poor start I reckon we should give him four games sack him and wait a couple of months until we replace him Who knows? he may have some tricks up his sleeve we've yet to see but success for any manager will depend largely on the quality of player we can attract at the level below. He's been a couple of qualaity players short all season, never able to bring in the right type or a body who stood out as a leader on the pitch and we've lacked that for a good while now. We have also lacked pace and trickery in wide areas. Toby Ajala had momments when he looked a world beater and ruffled defenses but was too inconsistent but he is the type of player I think we have missed. One things for certain our ineffective, goal shy front line will have to improve if we are to have any success because that is where we have failed until the final batch of Healy, Romain and Williams beagan to look marginally more effective. Though the goals haven't exactly been flowing have they and I'm not even sure if a Williams / Romain strike pairing would be much more effective a league below. Whoever it is at the helm has a tough job and I'm no fan of Owers and his side kick Kuhl - dour and humorless is my impression and I reckon they ruffled a few feathers in the dressing room thinking that would do the trick especially when they first arrived on the scene. Not always the answer when there simply wasn't enough quality in the squad to begin with. Whatever it would be difficult to attract an established name and more than likely a rookie manager would possibly be the only real alternative in our position so I'm 50/50 and undecided at the moment.

chelston I don't know, and am guessing it's information that hasn't been made public. But would we have entered into lengthy negotiations and also paid compensation to get someone only to offer them a 12 month contract ? Additionally I'd assume that Owers seemed quite secure in his employment at Bath, plus it was a short commute from home. Not sure Owers would have jacked things in at Bath unless there was the prospect of something more long term than 'You might be out on your ear at the end of the season' It's only right that any review of the season by fans, particularly a poor season, puts the Manager's performance under the spotlight. But I'm convinced the reality is that Owers position is quite safe. I'd guess his contract would be for a minimum of 2 years if not 3. I don't think chopping and changing too often fits with Clarke's long term project of building sustainable success .

Far from building sustainable success Osborne has constructed no more than fundamental failure!

Personally I cannot see any success if Owers remains as manager.

Owers going to have his retained list done and dusted by 6pm saturday so it sounds if he is staying good luck with anyone paying out good money to see this complete failure build another useless squad so expect a long stay in the national south

There is a similar thread on BTPIR that descended into a good old moan about the players and Nicholson, but for what it’s worth, here is my take posted in there regarding retaining Owers. I incorrectly said merse had made the comments referred to in paragraph one. The language can be a bit fruitier on there, so apologies in advance for any remarks that may cause offence contained in the below.
“I see merse has mentioned elsewhere that Owers routinely opts to rant, rave and, merse’s words, bully in his half time talks rather than putting over tactics. This is not a cry of ‘poor lambs’ from me either. Far from it. Yet the man has opted again to berate the players in the press - a key feature of his piss poor tenure and a fair indicator of a crap manager at this level to me.
Whether you think the players are a shower of shit or not, and they mostly are, Wor Gary sounds increasingly like a shower of shit himself, as well as lacking tactical nous by doing the same thing wrong again and again. As well as forgetting what went well either.
He failed to put any steel in our midfield all season. Evans had a short go at that, and went to right back and we did without. Barnes had one game as a holding midfielder, excelled, and it never happened again. His opted for system of play absolutely requires it. It’s hardly rocket science.
He has signed some god awful players and some want him to sign 18 or more in the close season after the mostly crap 22 he’s signed this season. f**k**g hell. I don’t trust him to get that right. His track record has been appauling. I didn’t trust the last bloke to do it either, but I’ve moved on from that. He sidelined Efete, who he was first seen publicly shouting at reasonably early doors. He was one of our better performers until the dour one worked his magic. I could go on. Maybe another time. But most importantly of all, we look clueless, unmotivated and outthought time and again.
Listen to him and it sucks the life out of you, so it’s not hard to see, with the rest of his catalogue of failure, why that might translate to demotivated underperformance. His past management record is underwhelming and his record with us is worse.
As the OP mentions, he is here come what may as Osborne says so and it’s his ball to deflate. But given a choice, getting rid of this serial loser appears a no-brainer.
It matters not, though, as Osborne will likely work the same magic he has worked everywhere else he has promised a new stadium. If he sees funding us properly next season as a means to his end, then Owers might be a beneficiary of that in a lower league. But he has neither earned that opportunity nor has looked like a manager most likely to capitalise from it. Hopefully it will be a budget that will mask over his cracks. But that will come at the inevitable price eventually, anyway.
If not apparent from my post thus far, I’d get rid. Because to date, he has been crap. And has taken us down. He’d be sacked if it was anywhere other than our basket case of a club”.

General consensus seems to be get rid and I agree with the reasons above as any success since he has come in has been inconsistent and fleeting and I would not be confident with him at the helm that we would win the league next season despite the spin of our owner.
No hope for us really as all three layers of the club hierarchy are not right to build any short, medium or long term success. 😝

It is on here and torquayfans.com, rjd, but if you look elsewhere, on a thread about sticking with or getting rid of Owers, attaching blame to Owers for our woes is tempered by :-
“I don't think there's ever been a case of mis-management on the scale of Kevin Nicholson last summer”.
I did ask whether that was since the dawn of time in all professions worldwide, but haven’t had an answer.
Anyone who tries to continue to blame Nicholson next season really ought to be ignored for their own health as those still doing it 7 months after he got sacked seem to be rapidly losing the plot.
Obviously it’s all irrelevant as Osborne is sticking with him. I hope Owers can show us all something next season that has clearly been lacking in his management thusfar and at other clubs. He is getting a promotion loan lodged against the club to aid his management career, so let’s hope he uses it wisely.
He gets a clean slate, as we have no option.
