Still plenty of speculation regarding just how many players Owers will be left with after making out his "wish list" that I would suggest the majority of supporters agreed with. Of the six he wants to remain for a new challenge I reckon he may get one or two to put pen to paper, Keating being the obvious to sign as its unlikely he will attract offers from elsewhere. Williams is he a spent force? Young will he move on to pastures new? Dorrell and Davis resigning I find a little optimistic -but both players are of the standard we need if we are to cahallenge. McGinty I stil cant make my mind up about. Physically ideal and has surely learned a lot these last two seasons The other five I would imagine will be hocked around various clubs by their agents. Interestingly every one was signed by a previous manager. With trials already underway and with a 70 player invite/trial only producing one or two he may invite back. I would immagine these are young out of contract released players with little experience who have played at a decent level.
So what do we need? We all have our opinions. History tells us we need a leader/s on the pitch, an old head who can steady the ship ideally in the middle of the park. Chris Hargreaves has his detractors but his influence in our promotion season was key to gelling the squad along with some shrewed signings some with plenty of experience - Hargreaves, Tim Sills, Chris Todd, Wayne Carlisle all leaders in their own way. A good mix of hungry raw pros made for a great squad mix. Owers faces his biggest test but if he can replicate a similar recipe we will have a chance though these are different times to those heady days.
Jut how will Owers try and construct his squad?

Just how will Owers try and construct his squad? Hopefully with a holding midfielder and a decent centre forward.

Indeed but we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future. I can only think that challenginging at the top of the table from the off will give some assurance to supporters that he has what it takes. There's also question of how many of us will stick with the football club in the next period of its history. Any indication that we are going to continue on this downward path will turn fans away he has to get it right and he knows it. No excuses this time around. The tide surely has to turn at some point.

link - as expected Luke Young looks poised to leave and to be honest I cannot blame him and wish him all the luck. On the other hand, I would like to see some evidence of this promotion budget and would expect to see a few signings soon if this is the case. I know, players will be on holiday and talking to agents to see what is on the table but surely we need to see some signs of intent if only for season ticket sells?

I think what we should hope for next season is a miracle because I suspect there is more likely to be struggle than success. I would be delighted to be proved wrong but I do not have confidence (based upon track records) of current incumbents. Will we rate success as mid table League South? Quite possibly but that would not be acceptable.

Never mind I'm sure Mc Ginty will sign. Yes. But probably for a side in the League above us.

A player gets a move to one or two league’s above what we’ll be playing at and one or two will still feel justified in saying he should have been released. Owers didn’t feel that way, neither did the vast majority of the fanbase and nor will the management teams of those making offers higher up the food chain. I think it’s fairly easy to assess who is right and who is wrong on this one. Young, MacDonald and McGinty are the three who have received the most stick in recent years. They will all have got moves to a level above us when they go is my prediction. Looking like two out of the three already.
