Nice to see Torquay United return to the FA Youth Cup after missing out for three seasons.
You do have to bear in mind that we are no longer a team of young professionals, but essentially a school team (Torquay Academy) - albeit a very decent one.
So opposition in the form of Elburton Villa was not as much a formality as it may have been in the past.
Olaf Koszela did not play. I was told that he was ineligible because he required international clearance as a Polish national and the club had not applied in time.
It was a very enjoyable and well-fought game between two sides who played hard but fair - the game was played in an excellent spirit. Both teams gave their all and players on both sides were dropping with cramp as the game drew to a close.
We went 1-0 up just before half-time with an excellent finish from no. 11 Zack Chalmers-Wood. Elburton equalised quickly after half-time and at that stage 1-1 was a fair reflection of the play. Chalmers-Wood soon grabbed a second and we grew more dominant grabbing a third through no. 12 sub after an excellent run by no. 16 sub.
We played 4-3-3, but with the centre-forward (Jake somebody?) holding the ball up well, both wide attackers cutting in and attacking and two of the three midfielders getting up to support the attack.
It was a good all-round team performance, but I would pick out Chalmers-Wood (one of the wide strikers), Alfie Edwards (no.7 - midfield) and Josh Baxter (no.5 - centre-back).
