RIP FreddieAs Jim Davidson inherits the title of greatest living English comedian, it's sad to have to say goodbye to Freddie Starr. A football lover, capable of playing a number of different roles within a team, my major concern is whether Freddie was able to send off his Brexit Party/ UKIP postal vote for this EU election, before his sad demise. And would it be counted ? Jim Davidson? You are surely joking, although I know that you don't often do that. Gary Johnson is funnier than him. There are no great living English comedians, following the demise of Ken Dodd, the greatest of them all. Only Michael McIntyre stands out among the current crop, and even he irritates me at times.

It's the bloody hair of McIntyre that annoys me...it's forever bouncing up and down! The best of the best (at the moment) is Peter Kay...and he seems to have gone into semi-retirement!

Kay is also the best living British comedian since Billy Connolly became a luvvie and Dave Allen actually died.

Even if we've broadened the classification from 'Living English' in order to appreciate the merits of 'Dead British', Dubliner Dave Allen still doesn't qualify Myself (and possibly Chelston if he's reading) would ask for Count Arthur Strong (Steve Delaney) to be worthy of consideration.

It's a difficult one to comment on, bit like saying which is the best album ever or are the play offs wrong... A big well done to Salford on their promotion to the promised land. Who would have thought it, them with a Billionaire backer and the millionaire backers, the Class of 92. Who says money doesn't help...

I must admit, I have never seen or heard of this guy before...was he round in the 80s? Also, are there any clips out there where he is actually funny?

Who says money doesn't help... A lot of people in the NLS from which we have just escaped think we did it solely because we had big money backing, and to an extent they are correct because without that backing we couldn't have remained full time and that was what gave us a lot of our advantage. Similarly when we last were in non-league it was the Bristow's money that financed us and got us out of the mere. As the money dried up we crashed and unless we can work out how to become self sufficient we will always be reliant on someone pumping money down a bottomless hole. So I don't think any TUFC supporter should be kidding themselves that we are somehow more pure and superior than other clubs that have relied on outside financial largesse. In fact when comparing Salford to our earlier moneybags incarnation under the Bristows, the "Billionaire backer and the millionaire backers" are to be congratulated for not only investing in the future, rather than the short term as we did, but also for investing in the regeneration of the City of Salford itself. I hate to say this but after looking the Bristows gift horse in the mouth we didn't really didn't deserve a second chance and cannot be surprised now if our entire future hangs on the whim of one man.

Torquay millionaire and Colin Lee v Billionaire, Beckham, Butt and the Nevilles (milionaires) and contacts within the game No contest I'm afraid!

I'm really pleased that Register created this thread, although about 90% of the postings are his and the remaining 10% is shared between five or six of us. In the past I have created several threads about current affairs, which I thought was the whole purpose of the Plopside board, and have been disappointed that members have appeared to show little or no interest in them. This thread, however, contains topics which are so diverse that they become "hidden", and I am now not bothered if my comments are passed over because people are not.......remotely interested.
Years ago I used to comment regularly on the actual football: great players of the past, formations, great matches of the 50s and 60s which I can remember as though they took place yesterday. However, I have not done so recently as I have not been to Plainmoor since 2011, when Paul Buckle decided to bugger off and was responsible for the merrygoround of useless managers who followed him. Now that Gary Johnson has become our fourth great manager (the others being Eric Webber, Frank O'Farrell and Kevin Hodges), I shall make every effort to get up there for a few matches next season, that's if my dodgy knee will allow me.
So, I have few topics for possible discussion as follows:
1. Jeremy Kyle is an obnoxious bully, and he and his execrable programme should never again appear on our TV screens. The same applies to ridiculous crap such as Big Brother, Love Island and Naked Attraction, all of which I have previously watched for about five minutes before switching to something else in disgust. 2. I heard over the weekend that a pop star by the name of Ed Shearinn (?) was among the richest people in the country with a personal wealth of 160 million pounds. He has done well for himself considering that he can't even sing, just grunt and mumble. 3. I watched a TV programme on Saturday night about West Ham women's team, in which their manager was speaking to the players, several of which were teenage girls, and using foul language (f**k this, f**k**g that, etc.). You just cannot hold that position and speak to women in those terms, and I have contacted the club and suggested that he should be shown the exit door, particularly as this incident took place in front of TV cameras.
There you are then, and sorry for such a long post. I welcome your views on these observations, but only if you are.......remotely interested.

How on earth can Paul Buckle be responsible for the dross that was appointed after he left the club. It's not like he actually had a say in the hiring of Hargreaves, Knill and Nicholson. By your logic O'Farrell was responsible for the dross appointed in the 1970s after he left to further his career (not bugger off as you put it).
