Let’s hope there’s a signing as we’re pretty thin on the ground now. Edwards is considered still a couple of weeks away, Dickson and Sokolik still out and obviously we’ve got the post Trophy debacle suspensions.
Could this be Saturday’s roster?
MacDonald; Wynter, Niate, Sendles-White, Davis; Kalala, Hall, Lemonheigh-Evans, Andrews; Reid, Janneh Subs: Burton, Essuman, Nabi, Koszela, Baxter
It’s a good 1st X1, but players on the bench have little game time between them and/or are very young. Personally, I reckon there will be a new signing, as GJ dropped a bollock last Saturday and I can’t see him doing the same thing twice in a week.

Probably a team good enough to win on Saturday. I think it is a positive that Williams has gone in that it is likely that both Reid and Janneh are fit and of course those two are on fire. From the podcast it seems that all of the Bristol City players are not going back to their parent club unless needed and I take that as sign that season long loans have been agreed subject to a recall cause which is a better place than many of us thought we would be in come January.
With Bass going back there is potential for another loan signing unless we are looking to get him back at a later point once the Pompey keeper injury has cleared up. Not sure where we need to strengthen with 3 players due back by the New Year which changes completely the complexion of the bench unless further injuries are sustained.

Parental authority being upheld, and GJ making it clear enough to his lad, that he can expect his Christmas present to be withheld unless it's signalled that Psycho Janner and the other Bristol City lads are allowed to continue enjoying English Riviera life.
I see little prospect of Bass returning here. MacDonald did exceptionally well in the early games, in a spell when our goals conceded made very impressive reading. However, despite this, and once he was fit, Bass was quickly brought into the team, I'm assuming on training ground evidence that he was clearly the superior keeper.
There were enough indications, even at times connected just to the way he conducted himself when making his way off the field at halftime, that Bass has a lot of belief (quite possibly justified) in his own ability. Despite GJ's indications that he'd try to keep both keepers happy, I can't imagine Bass accepting that he couldn't hold down a first team slot, even at National South Level. Not being acknowledged regular first choice between the sticks, may not have been something he found acceptable, and preferring to return to Portsmouth under the current circumstances isn't altogether a surprise.
No prospect of enjoying Brett Williams skills is disappointing. But Brett doesn't appear to have been blessed with a natural athleticism, with the indications that he's the sort of player, and also at an age, where he needs to play regularly to maintain adequate fitness. Exceptionally hard graft on the training ground probably isn't his preferred option to maintain this either. A couple of times more recently, Brett has come on as a sub and his touch, and instinctive play, have been badly lacking compared to what we'd normally expect from him. He does need match play, and if it's not available here, we're just as well to let him get those necessary games elsewhere.

A full 90+ minutes of National League game time for Williams today, which included a yellow card and setting up the winner in added time.

link - Williams leaves the club with his contract cancelled by mutual consent after his one month loan. Think he has done ok at Sutton and hopefully we will see him play next year!

Good outcome for all parties as, barring the Trophy, he has been a regular 90 minute starter for Sutton since the move.

Seemingly a decision that suits both parties. Brett would have come back to TUFC late last season, as one of the better paid players, and for those fretting about the debt, his removal from the payroll will allow them a temporary sigh of relief. An injury to either Psycho or Reidy, and I wouldn't want our promotion quest to be reliant on Ruari Keating for goals, but I'm sure GJ will have considered suitable Plan B's should we hit a snag. With the Gulls doing so well, Brett would have been out of sight and out of mind for me, and so Rob updating on his progress at Sutton has been most appreciated. I'll miss Brett's ability and graceful, seemingly effortless approach to the game, but accept that his style was a bad fit with the system that is reaping such impressive dividends for us currently. Ideally Brett will be back at Plainmoor next season as part of a visiting National League side's line up, and I'm fairly certain he'd receive a warm welcome in such circumstances.

No great loss. Fairly anodyne presence with the odd good goal.

Bet Brett wouldn't have missed that sitter at the end of the game!
