One thing I didn't expect to happen when Woking played their games in hand, and that was for them to still be behind us! I was expecting them to be 4/5 points ahead! Now that we have it in our grasp, what could possibly go wrong!

Now that we have it in our grasp, what could possibly go wrong! After only five goals in the first nine games of the season we are no longer playing catch up! Just need to keep winning now. Torquay and Woking both play on two of the next three Tuesdays but we have the opportunity to increase our lead back to 4 points against Hemel on Tuesday.

Sadly, at the start of the season, when the midweek games were coming thick and fast, we were scratching around like headless chickens trying to pick up the odd point! Otherwise, if we had Johnson from the start, the bookies would probably have already paid out on us

I never get ahead of myself these days. My first proper full season supporting was 1967/68 and those of old enough to remember what happened will understand why. We looked dead certs to top the third division table, after stuffing Bury 3-0 on Match of the day at around this time of year in 68 and for reasons unknown we fell just apart and ended up in fourth place. Oxford put in an incredible late run to top the table if I remember correctly A few of you will remember the event no doubt, I'm still carrying the mental scars. Have a look at the final table. www.englishfootballleaguetables.co.uk/final/f1967-68.html#d3Heady days with home crowds averaging over 9000 and despite our failure to gain promotion to what is now the Championship, it was great time to be following the club. For those of you who do have memories and what followed the following year after Luton Town came up from League division four and the massive invasion of Crombie wearing Luton Town Skinheads for our home tie. We had another good season finishing sixth but following the departure of Frank Ofarell and many of the squad leaving for Bournmouth under Alan Brown it all started to go down hill with relegation in 1972. We have never fully recovered but glad that I witnessed those packed crowds and fantastic games usually played in the evening under floodlights.

Without Owers you wouldn’t have got those odds! Agree! Though I could do without my 'Butt Hole' going Halfcrown...Sixpence - Halfcrown...Sixpence, every Saturday afternoon...and the occasional Tuesday!

That's how starfishes swim... I must admit, that I've often been accused of talking out of my arse, but never that I was being propelled along by it! But that's enough talk of my Derry Air...although there was this one time...

Bloody Hell...that didn't take long did it! As Woking aren't playing tonight, it means they'll have another bloody game in hand! Do Woking get to choose where and who they play? Because they always seem to be at home, playing against an easy to beat team!

Register Yep, doesn't appear we'll be able to shake them off for a while yet. However, now that we're able to consult Floridagull's excellent chart, it looks as if you need to reassess the situation after Woking's game next Tuesday is out of the way. Hopefully by then we'll still be in contention, but the spread of fixtures might look more favourable to us. By the end of next Tuesday We should have 7 home games and 6 away still to complete, whereas Woking will be down to only 5 at home, but 8 away still to go. Of course there is a possibly critical 6 pointer in amongst that lot. I loved the interesting link as well as Pete's reminiscences from a couple of days ago, relating to the 1967/68 season. That old 3rd Division produced another fascinating tussle at the top the following year. By coincidence a picture of Ken Furphy with his table topping Watford team from 1968/69 popped up on Twitter as I was scrolling through last night. Ken had some good players there, and some of us will recall names such as Stewart Scullion and Keith Eddy, who both incidentally, took a similar route to Ken, with spells at Sheffield United before heading off to America. Season 1968/69

Is it just me, or do quite a few of those Watford players have disproportionately sized heads...as if they were added at a later date? Went to watch us at Watford in the 70s...boring 0:0 draw if I remember rightly. It was my first case of Dave Javu though! I knew the ground like the back of my hand! What a ridiculous saying that is...how often do people look at the back of their hands? Also remember about the same time when the Watford fans came to our gaff...all wearing black gloves! It wasn't long before they chased all the Torquay fans (me included) out of the mini-stand! Happy days!

Does look a bit strange now you point it out, Reg. Watford's too far from Windscale for that to be a factor, so it may remain a mystery. After all, we're going back to the days when Elton John was married to a woman, or maybe even earlier than that. Mind you, we have to be forever grateful to Watford; just think, if it hadn't been for them, Argyle would have appeared in an F.A Cup final !

Hey AJ I reckon that's a center spread from "Goal" magazine popular at the time and a really good read. Used to subscribe regularly back then when people actually read about their hero's without having to look at a screen of some kind!
Never read the Football League Review that much. Used to be a free match day program size magazine though occasionally we got a mention or an article written about us when we were doing well.

Kevin Keegan quote seems appropriate here....I would love it if we beat them. Love it!
