I love the Torquayfanstats site: www.torquayfanstats.com/Chris does a great job and it is good to know we have a club statistician from the next generation. But a budding historian needs to be careful of quoting unreliable sources as fact: Torquay Fan Stats @torquayfanstats Dec 26
OTD: Leslie Lievesley becomes the first #tufc player to be shown a red card, away at Swindon (1933)Oh no he didn't!!! Stating the obvious - red cards had not been dreamt of in 1933!!! Was Lievesley the first ever Torquay player to be sent off?? Nowhere near! Sendings-off were not anywhere near as rare back in the day as some might think. In fact, 108 years ago to the day Wally Cudlipp was sent off for the second time in a week! I don't think even Caldwell or Brabin could match that! Thanks Jon, I will adjust this wording on the 'On This Day' page: www.torquayfanstats.com/on-this-dayOne of the things I have learned over the couple of years running the site is the importance of language, from the ambiguous to the downright dodgy. The source is, I believe, quite a good one (cough, the TUFC Centenary History)… but the wording of first Torquay player to be sent off (not red card) in the Football League (an important part missing...) is one that needs to be worded carefully to avoid the above. Most of the 'On This Day' bits were written when the site was created in 2016 and I set myself the target that summer of finding something for every day. If anyone can find any other errors or things to improve (on any page) or has any ideas for memorable moments for the OTD page or rest of the site, let me know and I'll get them included.

The great John Lovis did all the 1927-77 narrative and I know he read through loads of old Heralds to write his history which was originally printed season by season in home programmes 1977-78 and 1978-79. John writes wonderfully and chooses his words carefully. I do find it strange if we went six and a half seasons without a league dismissal. I've spotted quite a few in the years 1921-27 in the Southern League, FA Cup (bristol Rovers 1926) and Devon Professional. Maybe we cleaned up our act when we got in the league.
