I think it is about time, that “Sir Robin” was awarded a long overdue Testimonial match, When u think about some of those ex players & staff such as David Stocks, Cliff Myers, Bob Glozier, “Norman im off to Argyle Medhurst”plus if you can remember the prize numpty “Ben Street” Who were all rewarded with a testimonial, not one of them come even come close, to what Robin Stubbs gave to the club!! So come on lets reward him as he should have been decades ago, probably the finest player, to wear the gold & blue!!!

Great interview with Robin and his son here. Those of us who can remember seeing him play will understand why he is held in such high esteem. Robin would certainly have been playing higher up the football pyramid these days and had a much longer career in the modern more forgiving game.
Happy 80th Birthday Robin Stubbs.

Yes pete f he stayed really out of choice as he loved Torquay. He had of course played in the top division for Birmingham City as well as having played for them at the San Siro and been sub at the Nou Camp before he joined us. He had interest from Division 1 clubs and a move to Blackpool who were top division then was just about sealed but he turned it down at the last minute. I suppose his love for Torquay is illustrated by him returning after just 2 years when he did eventually move, and staying living in the town after his football days. Great player there was always that buzz of excitement and expectation when he was anywhere near the ball. He scored some wonderful goals so it is somewhat strange that the ones I remember most were his 2 flukiest (v Spurs)! 😂⚽️
